Apprentice (HGV Technician)
Do you have an interest in the repairs and maintenance of vehicles? Then this apprenticeship could be ideal for you.

HGV Technicians perform routine maintenance, diagnosis and repairs to heavy goods vehicles. They ensure that trucks meet an organisation's safety and customer service standards. HGV Technicians may also provide urgent assistance to customers when they are out on the road.

As a HGV Technician Apprentice you will develop the skills and experience to carry out maintenance and diagnostic work on Durham County Council vehicles, this will involve work on all systems found within the vehicle. 

Whilst this is a HGV Qualification you will have the opportunity to work on other vehicles such as cars, vans, plant and machinery.

The apprenticeship post will be based at a designated depot; however, you may be required to work at any council workplace in County Durham.  

What qualification will I gain?
You will study towards the Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Level 3 standard with Gateshead College.

What will I need?
You must either have or expect to achieve 2 GCSE’s grade 9-4/A*-C in English and Maths or an equivalent qualification, together with good communication and ICT skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

You must also have the ability to work towards achieving a HGV license during the apprenticeship.

Candidates who do not evidence that they meet the essential qualifications and experience listed on the person specification will not be short-listed.
