About the Role
Are you passionate about helping students overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential? We're looking for a dedicated Pastoral Assistant to play a key role in creating a safe, supportive and nurturing school environment where every student can thrive.
Working closely with the Head of Behaviour and Welfare, you'll be at the heart of our pastoral provision, supporting students' emotional wellbeing, behaviour and personal development. You'll build positive relationships with students, provide support during challenging moments, and help implement strategies that enable students to engage successfully in learning and school life.
This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You'll work collaboratively with teachers, support staff and senior leaders to ensure students receive the guidance, care and encouragement they need to succeed both academically and personally. From delivering targeted interventions and tracking behaviour trends to supporting community projects, work experience opportunities and student rewards programmes, you'll have a genuine impact on the lives of young people every day.
Key Responsibilities
Provide pastoral, emotional and behavioural support to students across the school.
Support students during times of crisis, helping them regulate emotions and re-engage with learning.
Work alongside teaching staff to promote positive behaviour and successful classroom inclusion.
Assist in the planning and delivery of individual support strategies and interventions.
Support the coordination and day-to-day operation of pastoral systems and routines.
Monitor behaviour, attendance and wellbeing trends, maintaining accurate records and reporting key information.
Lead and contribute to rewards initiatives, community projects and enrichment opportunities.
Build positive relationships with students, families and external professionals.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about student wellbeing, thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants to make a lasting difference in a specialist school setting.
About You
We're looking for a resilient, compassionate and proactive individual who is passionate about supporting students to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. You'll be confident building positive relationships, remain calm under pressure and be committed to creating a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment where every student can succeed.
You will have:
A strong understanding of social, emotional and behavioural needs and the impact these can have on learning and engagement.
Experience supporting students with additional needs and implementing effective behaviour and communication strategies.
The ability to build positive, professional relationships that promote trust, confidence and personal growth.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, families, colleagues and external professionals.
The confidence to work independently, use your initiative and make informed decisions while contributing positively as part of a wider team.
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, manage competing demands and maintain accurate records.
Also, experience working with students in a challenging educational, SEND or pastoral setting (ASD/SEMH) is desirable.
Most importantly, you'll share our commitment to helping students feel valued, understood and supported, enabling them to develop the confidence, resilience and skills needed to thrive both in school and beyond.
