Do you want to be part of a service that is passionate about improving the lives of disabled children and their families? We have excellent opportunities to join our Disabled Children’s Service and help drive our vision for the future in collaboration with partner agencies across North Yorkshire.

About the Service

North Yorkshire Council’s Children’s Services have a strong reputation for delivering high-quality, child-centred services, and we are committed to creating an environment where Social Workers can flourish.

We know that great practice starts with a supported workforce, which is why we invest heavily in the development, wellbeing and progression of our staff. Whether you are at the beginning of your social work career or looking for your next challenge, you will join a service that values your expertise, encourages professional curiosity and provides the support you need to make a meaningful difference.

As part of our team, you will benefit from a welcoming and collaborative culture where managers are approachable, supervision is reflective and purposeful, and learning is actively encouraged. We understand the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance and offer flexible and hybrid working arrangements alongside opportunities to develop specialist knowledge and skills within disability social work.

The Role:

As a Social Worker within the Disabled Children’s Service, you will play a vital role in a supportive and experienced specialist team working with disabled children and their families.

The role involves undertaking assessments, identifying strengths and needs, implementing timely and proportionate interventions, signposting to relevant support services and where required, developing and coordinating packages of support to improve outcomes and promote independence.

You'll be supported by experienced leaders, receive high-quality reflective supervision, access a wide range of professional development opportunities, including the ASYE programme and benefit from a flexible hybrid working approach that enables you to thrive both professionally and personally.

Our 0–18 Disabled Children’s Service takes a holistic and child-centred approach, working with a diverse range of children, young people and families, often alongside a wide network of professionals, you will build strong relationships with families and work in partnership with them across Child in Need (Section 17), Children in Care and Child Protection (Section 47) frameworks.

The team is committed to working alongside children, young people and their families using strengths-based, solution-focused and relationship-centred approaches. We place the voice of the child at the heart of our practice and are passionate about supporting families to build resilience, maximise independence and achieve positive outcomes.

Working within a specialist service provides a unique opportunity to develop expertise in disability social work, collaborate closely with education, health and care professionals, and make a genuine difference to the lives of children and young people with complex needs. No two days are the same, and the role offers both challenge and reward in equal measure.

Key Requirements:

  • Must hold a relevant Social Work qualification (DIPSW, CQSW, Masters, or Degree in Social Work).
  • Able to demonstrate skills and knowledge aligned with the job specification.
  • Passionate about working with Children and Young people and committed to creating brighter futures for them.
  • Must be registered with Social Work England.
  • Confident spoken communication skills required.
  • Proficient use of the English language is essential for this role.
  • Access to a car along with a full clean licence.

We are delighted to be offering the opportunity to join our highly regarded Disabled Children’s Service, where you will be part of an experienced and passionate team dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes for disabled children, young people and their families.

It is an exciting time in Children and Young Peoples Services in North Yorkshire as we plan our approach in respect of the Families First Partnership Programme and how we will be responding to the social care reforms. Work is underway to plan our approach and implementations for 2027. As a result of this, some realignment may happen with job roles in the future, we want to be transparent about this in respect of this role.
