Working closely with the Headteacher and Office Manager, you will be responsible for the daily upkeep of the school buildings and grounds while ensuring the premises remain safe, secure and fully operational. The role offers plenty of variety, with responsibilities ranging from routine maintenance to preparing facilities for school events and ensuring health and safety standards are consistently maintained.

Premises Team

The Premises Team is responsible for ensuring the school remains safe, secure and welcoming every day. As Caretaker, you will play a vital role in maintaining the buildings and grounds while supporting the daily operation of the school.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Opening and securing the school site.

• Carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs.

• Undertaking regular health and safety inspections.

• Monitoring heating, lighting and basic building services.

• Preparing classrooms and halls for assemblies and school events.

• Maintaining playgrounds, pathways and outdoor areas.

• Supervising contractors while they are on site.

• Reporting maintenance issues requiring specialist attention.

• Moving furniture and equipment when required.

• Supporting deliveries and site logistics.

• Maintaining maintenance records and compliance documentation.

• Helping ensure the school site remains clean, safe and presentable throughout the year.

The successful candidate will become an important member of the wider school team, helping to create an environment where children and staff can thrive.

Requirements

• Previous caretaking, maintenance or facilities experience is desirable.

• Good practical maintenance and DIY skills.

• Knowledge of basic health and safety procedures.

• Strong organisational skills.

• Ability to work independently and use initiative.

• Reliable and flexible approach.

• Good communication skills.

• Positive attitude and willingness to support the wider school community.
