About the Service
Bucks Activity Project delivers community short breaks for children aged 0–19 with disabilities and additional needs. We’re a busy, buzzing, and supportive service where staff work closely together and fully immerse themselves in activities, participating alongside children rather than supervising from the sidelines.
Our aim is to give every child fun, skill‑building opportunities that promote independence at their pace, supported by a welcoming and responsive admin team.
The most inspiring moments come from children overcoming fears, achieving something new, or simply feeling safe enough to smile or seek comfort.
We break down barriers, follow each child’s lead and give families valuable breathing space.
About the role
As a Children’s Services Team Leader, you’ll guide and work alongside a dedicated team supporting children and young people to reach their potential by meeting social, emotional, health, and personal care needs.
You’ll lead inclusive, child‑led sessions that support development and independence, while actively joining a wide range of community activities designed to engage, challenge, and inspire children and young people across Buckinghamshire.
You’ll capture meaningful outcomes, support your colleagues, and maintain high standards of safety and engagement, while driving continuous improvement through positive communication with children, families, and professionals to ensure every child achieves the best possible outcomes.
This role has a typical work pattern of Tuesday – Saturday (9.00-17.00) with one shift per week and Tuesday or Thursday (13.30 to 21.15) with 1 weekend off in 5.
What you do could make a difference
- Supporting staff to meet children’s social, emotional, health, and personal care needs.
- Creating sessions tailored to individual interests, including arts, sensory play, cooking, team games, outdoor play, and EYFS experiences.
- Engaging fully in climbing, water sports, go‑karting, farm visits, parks, and other local activities.
- Capturing progress and supporting colleagues to ensure high‑quality practice.
- Ensuring safety and continuous improvement
Let's talk about you.
- Demonstrable knowledge of disabilities and excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- Level 3 Early Years childcare or an OFSTED‑approved equivalent, or willingness to study for one funded by us.
- Bring behaviours that reflect our commitment to putting children and families at the heart of everything we do.
- Have a full driving licence and access to your own vehicle to travel across Buckinghamshire.
- Model professionalism, positivity, and reliability in all aspects of the role.

Diversity, equality and inclusion
At Action for Children, we’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels respected, valued, and able to thrive. We know that racism and discrimination create barriers, and we’re taking active steps to challenge these inequalities in our organisation and in the communities we serve.
We strongly welcome applications from people who are Black, Asian, or from other racialised and ethnically marginalised communities, as well as disabled people, who are currently under‑represented in our workforce. We are committed to removing barriers in our recruitment processes and ensuring fair access to opportunities.
We also encourage applications from men, who are under‑represented in our Children’s Services roles. We recognise that people hold multiple identities, and we value the richness this brings to our team.
