Healthcare Support Worker | Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Part-time
We are looking for part-time Health Care Support Worker for our Outpatients Departmentto work within various specialist clinics across the department.

- Work collaboratively with others in the care setting to ensure that patients’ needs are met.
- Use social media as per Trust policy and procedures.
- Read and follow the Skills for Health Code of Conduct for Health Care - -- Support Workers and always maintain the confidentiality of patient information - As part of your employment with the Trust, you are bound by the policies and procedures within the organisation and the wider NHS.
- Cover the duties of colleagues in posts of the same band or lower and within the range of the postholder’s knowledge and skills ensuring patients are at the centre of every decision.
- The core clinical skills competencies should be completed within 12 months of starting within the role as a Senior Health Care Support Worker. -Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), midwife or Nursing Associate (RNA), participate fully in the delivery of planned nursing care, within the boundaries of your role which may include chaperoning of patients, escorting/ transferring of patients, providing 1-1 patient centred care and caring for patients undergoing procedures.
-Demonstrates own duties to new starters and supervises work of students, undertaking a buddying role for new Health Care Support Workers
-Frequent exposure to emotional/distressing events, e.g., breaking of bad news.
-Orders supplies under the direction of the nurse in charge.
- Participate in patient and public involvement activities.
- Participate in general cleanliness and tidiness of ward environment.
- Undertake mandatory training and role specific training relevant to role.
- Record and escalate patient physiological observations.
-Person Centred care. -Exchange factual information with patients using a variety of methods to help patients understanding, supporting RNs and RNAs in providing health promotion/education.
- Undertake personal care duties e.g., bathing, washing, mouth care, toileting, catheter care, dressing, support with meals and assisting patients with their personal hygiene appearance.
- Assist patients to mobilise safely, including the correct use of various aids available.
- Handle patients’ valuables in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
- Assist the patient to meet their individual religious, spiritual and cultural needs.
- Respect the patient's rights and choices as an individual.
- Maintain a safe, tidy and clean environment for staff, patients and relatives. Procedures
- Prepare the environment for a clinical procedure including the preparation of a procedural trolley; assembling equipment following the procedural document and under the supervision and guidance of a registrant.
- Set up and assist nursing/medical staff in clinical procedures using aseptic technique once appropriate training has been given.
- Complete pre-procedure checklist, Loccsips
- Caring for and monitoring patients during procedures
- Chaperone patients while undergoing medical examinations and various
procedures.
- Ensure clinics are kept fully stocked
- Decontamination of equipment post procedure
- Delivering specimens, test requests and notes as and when requested to do so.
- Demonstrate knowledge of safe disposal of sharps into an appropriate container and universal safety techniques with regard to spillages.
Undertakes a range of core clinical skills which include:
- Patient observations including blood pressure, oxygen saturations, heart rate, height, BMI, respirations, temperature, pain score, NEWS - Obtain samples including urine dip, from a catheter, MSU and faeces, sputum
- Order test on Cerner – MRSA, MC&S for samples (eg. Ear swab, MSU)
- Blood glucose and ketone testing
-ECG recording -Observe wounds and change simple dressings using asceptic/non touch technique, removing clips and sutures as directed.
- Bladder scan
-Venepuncture & Cannulation
- Skin assessment
- Urinary catheter insertion and removal
-Urinalysis and pregnancy testing
-Bone density scans in out-patient setting
-Undertaking quality assurance checks of machines used for point of care testing.
-Organise annual PAT testing for equipment
-Spirometry
-Ophthalmology measurements
-Check top of resuscitation trolley daily
-Participate in safety checks –ambient room and fridge temperature checks – performing appropriate action when reading is out of range and escalating when necessary This advert closes on Thursday 11 Jun 2026
