Specialist Nurse Practitioner - ADHD Non Medical Prescriber

Job summary
Salford Core CAMHS is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced practitioner to join the team as a Specialist Mental Health Practitioner/Non-Medical Prescriber, with a key role in the delivery of the ADHD assessment and intervention pathway.

The successful candidate will be a registered healthcare professional and qualified Non-Medical Prescriber, with experience of working with children and young people with ADHD and associated mental health difficulties. They will have experience of ADHD assessment and intervention, including prescribing, medication initiation, titration and ongoing monitoring.

The post holder will work autonomously within their scope of practice whilst working closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team. They will provide specialist advice and consultation to colleagues as well as other professionals and agencies involved in the care of children and young people.

The post holder will contribute to the ongoing delivery and development of the ADHD pathway within Salford Core CAMHS, supporting high-quality, evidence-based assessment and treatment in line with NICE guidance and local clinical pathways.

Main duties of the job
Main Duties

• Contribute to the development and delivery of the ADHD pathway within Salford Core CAMHS, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team and wider multi-disciplinary team.
• Undertake specialist ADHD assessments, including formulation and diagnostic decision-making, identifying the needs of children and young people and their families and carers.
• Independently prescribe, initiate, titrate and monitor ADHD medication, including controlled drugs where appropriate, in line with NICE guidance, local and national prescribing guidance and professional scope of practice.
• Monitor treatment effectiveness, physical health, side effects, adverse reactions, interactions and contraindications, making appropriate clinical decisions regarding treatment.
• Provide ongoing review and long-term management of children and young people with ADHD.
• Contribute to the effective management of the ADHD waiting list and support timely access to assessment and treatment.
• Hold and manage an appropriate clinical caseload.
• Provide specialist ADHD and prescribing advice, consultation, training and supervision to colleagues and other professionals.
• Work autonomously within professional standards and clinical governance arrangements, maintaining accountability for clinical and prescribing decisions.
• Contribute to audit, quality improvement and ongoing development of the ADHD pathway.

Experience

• Minimum 1 year post qualification experience of working with children and young people
• Proven experience of working effectively with people with mental health difficulties, including autonomous management of a complex caseload which frequently deals with distressing and emotional circumstances
• Proven experience of working effectively with children and young people with a full range of mental health difficulties providing both assessment and therapeutic interventions across settings including community, outpatient and clinics
• Extensive experience of assessing and managing risk: including safeguarding
• Experience of working autonomously as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience of liaison and consulting with a range of healthcare and other relevant agencies and professionals.
• Experience in designing, planning and undertaking clinical research/service evaluation.
