Registered Veterinary nurse vacancy - Scottish borders
£32k per annum A role is available for both experienced Registered Veterinary Nurses seeking a new direction and newly qualified nurses ready to start their careers.
This position provides an opportunity to become part of a supportive and forward-thinking team in Ayr, where nurses are highly valued and encouraged to develop and succeed.
This opportunity would suit a motivated and dedicated RVN interested in working across practices in Irvine, Ayr, and Kilmarnock. The clinics foster a culture built on respect, collaboration, and continuous professional growth. Support is provided by a Clinical Nurse Manager and an RVN owner who brings valuable insight into the nursing role and actively champions its importance.
Nurses are fundamental to the delivery of patient care within the organisation. The team includes individuals with specialist expertise in areas such as acupuncture, pain management, behaviour, and Schedule 3 surgical procedures. There is a strong emphasis on enabling nurses to take ownership of their responsibilities, whether that involves running consultations, overseeing anaesthesia, or delivering high-quality inpatient care. Modern equipment and technology are in place to ensure the highest standards of clinical practice, demonstrating a clear investment in the nursing team.
The organisation operates across three Ayrshire-based practices under the leadership of a partnership that includes veterinary surgeons, an RVN, and a practice manager, ensuring all perspectives are represented. A large and committed team works together to achieve excellent clinical standards while also prioritising client experience. The working environment promotes respect, open communication, teamwork, and a strong focus on maintaining a healthy balance between professional and personal life. Flexibility is prioritised, with working patterns and benefits adapted to suit individual preferences.
Across all locations, the clinical team consists of numerous veterinary surgeons and RVNs, alongside clinical leads and nurse coaches who provide guidance and mentorship. Ongoing development is actively encouraged, and team members benefit from strong collaborative support regardless of which site they are based at.
The ideal candidate will be either newly qualified or experienced as an RVN, with a genuine enthusiasm for nursing, a positive and proactive mindset, and a commitment to delivering excellent clinical care and client service. A collaborative approach and willingness to engage with the wider team are essential.
In return, the position offers a salary of up to £32,000, dependent on experience, along with flexible working arrangements that can accommodate both full-time and part-time hours. The rota includes one in four Saturdays with no out-of-hours duties. Additional benefits include a generous CPD allowance with paid study leave, payment of professional fees, private healthcare with the option to extend to family members, enhanced maternity pay, income protection, and a pension scheme.
