Discovery Internship: Director/Editor/Creative Lead Intern (Strawberry Fields)

Strawberry Field, the iconic site managed by The Salvation Army and immortalised by John Lennon and the Beatles, is a visitor attraction at the heart of Liverpool tourism. The centre offers an authentic experience with a strong commitment to responsible tourism running central to every aspect of its operation. 

In addition to our commercial offerings of a Visitor Exhibition, Imagine More Café, gift shop and beautifully designed gardens, the centre is also home to the Steps to Work Programmes, a set of initiatives for members of the community who have learning difficulties or who face barriers to work, providing them with valuable support and opportunities for meaningful employment.

The site also hosts the Fresh Expression Team, who run a number of groups and activities to engage and uplift the local community, including those with additional support needs. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive and accessible venue and we are seeking support to further enhance our accessibility by offering visitors the opportunity to take a virtual tour of the centre before their visit.

Duties and responsibilities
We are continually seeking ways to enhance our facilities and visitor experience. To support this ongoing commitment, we are planning to create a virtual tour of Strawberry Field to feature on our website, with a particular focus on accessibility for individuals with mobility issues but will also consider the support needs of all visitors.

The video would ideally cover: 

• Arrival as a pedestrian (e.g. from a nearby bus stop)
• Arrival by car (including accessible parking features)
• Ticket purchase and entry into the visitor exhibition 
• Garden tour (including access via ramps/lifts, bandstand, and rose garden)
• The café
• The shop
• Accessible toilet facilities

We thought this could be a great opportunity for a group of students to get involved in filming and producing the video.

Media Production Internship s 

This is a small production team and, while each has specific responsibilities, all team members will be expected to support one another and assist with tasks outside their primary as required. A flexible, proactive and collaborative approach is essential, as production activities may change throughout the project. Applicants should possess a broad range of general media production skills and be willing to contribute wherever needed to help ensure the successful delivery of the project.

The Director / Creative Lead is responsible for overseeing the creative vision and overall direction of the project. They will work with the team to develop ideas, plan content, guide creative decisions during production, and ensure the final output meets the objectives of the project. They will also work closely with the client to understand requirements, present ideas, respond to feedback, and adapt the creative approach where necessary to meet the evolving needs of the brief. Strong leadership, communication and creative problem-solving skills are essential for this .

• Demonstrate excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with all members of the team.
• Work independently, showing initiative in conducting research and generating innovative ideas to advance the project.
• Possess strong analytical skills, capable of evaluating information and producing comprehensive, well-structured reports on their findings.
• Present findings confidently to the team in a clear, professional and engaging manner.
• Effectively manage their own workload to meet agreed deadlines.
• Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
