LOCATION: BBC Radio Wiltshire, Swindon with occasional travel to BBC Radio Gloucestershire

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: 24,800 -27,667 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Please note, the start date for this role will be November 2026

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

BBC Radio Wiltshire serves audiences across a large and vibrant county, from Stonehenge to Swindon, Trowbridge to Tidworth. The county is known for its historic landscapes and monuments but is also a thriving business hub and commuter belt for many. It boasts a quarter of the British Army as well as other major employers such as Dyson and Nationwide. We’re committed to telling amazing stories from our communities and bringing in new audiences through creating content which generates impact on-air and on demand. We’re looking for a Journalism Coordinator to work on our Afternoon Show.

Main Responsibilities

  • You’ll be based in the BBC Radio Wiltshire newsroom but will spend each day liaising with producers at BBC Radio Gloucestershire to provide stories for our shared Afternoon show.
  • This will involve sourcing ideas, researching items, setting up guests and scripting and recording audio and video clips.
  • You may be asked to go out and record voxes, interviews and packages and there may be some live reporting opportunities as well.
  • You’ll also be reversioning content for BBC Sounds, social media platforms and audio replays.
  • You will be expected to work in our Ops area, helping output programmes by getting guests on the telephone/Whatsapp etc and taking calls from listeners.
  • On a Monday you’ll be expected to work a later day to support our sports programme which starts at 6pm and finishes at 7pm.

Essential Criteria

  • Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team whilst staying calm under pressure.
  • Be able to come up with creative treatments to enable brilliant storytelling.
  • Experience of outputting radio programmes.
  • A knowledge of Wiltshire and Gloucestershire and an understanding of the target audience.
  • Experience of how to make the most of our social media and digital opportunities.

Desirable

  • Evidence of developing productive working relationships with presenters, helping to get the best out of each other.

If you can bring some of these skills and experiences, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.
