Main duties of the job
An excellent opportunity has arisen for experienced Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the Therapies team here at HMP Berwyn, a category C prison for adult men with a range of varied health needs. This is a great opportunity to embed change and embed a shared culture with HMP and the probation service.
We are looking for a clinically skilled Occupational Therapist who is able to work across a range of complex clinical issues and able to articulate the role of Occupational Therapy in a prison setting. The successful candidate will have a degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy, significant post graduate experience which includes demonstrable experience in a related clinical field as well as proven post-graduate clinical and service development competencies. You will also have excellent organisational skills and an ability to problem solve multiple issues within a fast-paced custodial context.
Duties will include delivering a range of treatments including the manual handling of clients and equipment, to be responsible for assessing and ordering and advising on safe use of equipment, and to conduct supervision to junior staff and students. You will also be responsible for referral processes, assessments, managing your own caseload through planning, prioritising and carrying out clinical activities.

- Significant post graduate experience with demonstrable experience in related clinical field which equips the post holder to be competent to carry a specialist caseload in specialist area.
- Experience of contributing to service development and implementing service changes
- Experienced supervisor
- Experience of supporting student placements
Desirable criteria
- Broad band 5 rotational experience
