Job Content

Teachers are required to act in accordance with the school’s ethos, policies and practices, under the direction of Vice-Principal. In addition to the duties and responsibilities of a Main Pay Range Teacher you are, as an Upper Pay Range Teacher, required to be highly competent in all elements of the Teacher Standards, to ensure that your achievements and contribution to the School are substantial and sustained.

The successful candidate would be expected to:

Plan and deliver inspiring, ambitious lessons and sequences of learning that enable every pupil to make excellent progress and achieve their full potential. With genuine autonomy over the Art curriculum, you will have the freedom to bring your own creativity, expertise and interests to the classroom. You will be encouraged to experiment with new ideas, embrace innovative approaches and draw on traditional artistic methods, helping to shape a rich, relevant and forward-thinking curriculum that is fit for the modern age.

Teach small KS3 classes, creating an environment where pupils can be ambitious, creative and confident in their artistic development from an early age. Our smaller exam groups also provide the opportunity to develop genuinely individual and personal projects with pupils, allowing you to nurture their interests and strengths rather than relying on a formulaic approach. Every pupil has access to their own iPad, supporting creativity, research and the development of contemporary artistic skills.

Assess, monitor and celebrate pupil progress, keeping accurate records and providing thoughtful feedback and reports that help pupils understand and develop their artistic practice.

Set and mark meaningful, purposeful work that encourages pupils to experiment, develop their skills and take increasing ownership of their artistic journey, both in school and beyond the classroom.

Prepare and support pupils for external examinations, helping them to develop the confidence, technical skills and creative independence required to fulfil their potential.

Contribute to the wider organisation, strategy and development of the School, playing an active role in its continued growth and success.

Contribute to the development and evaluation of the School’s policies, practices and procedures, helping to uphold and strengthen the School’s values, vision and commitment to an outstanding education.

Collaborate with colleagues across the School to create exciting opportunities for pupils. As part of a wider Arts community, there is scope to work closely with colleagues in Drama, Music and other creative disciplines — including opportunities such as set design and painting — as well as contributing to the wider life of the School. We value teachers who enjoy sharing ideas, collaborating with others and looking for creative ways to enrich pupils’ experiences.

Pupil Wellbeing and Support

Support the wider teaching team when required, including providing occasional cover for colleagues who are unexpectedly unavailable. Such cover is only rarely required and would normally arise in circumstances that could not reasonably be anticipated.

Promote a safe, positive and purposeful learning environment, maintaining high standards of behaviour and ensuring that pupils feel supported, valued and able to thrive.

Promote and safeguard the health, safety and wellbeing of all pupils, in accordance with the School’s Child Protection and other relevant policies.

Maintain positive relationships and high expectations, supporting good order and discipline in accordance with the School’s behaviour policy and contributing to a culture in which pupils can flourish.

Job Context

All staff are part of a whole school team. They are required to support the values and ethos of the school and school priorities as defined in the School Improvement Plan. This will mean focussing on the needs of staff, pupil, parents and governors of the school and being flexible, whilst prioritising workload and meeting deadlines, in a busy pressurised environment. It is the individual’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people s/he is responsible for or comes into contact with.
