£34.42k - £37.78k per annumMain Purpose of the Role
Working within Perth & Kinross Council is more than a job, it's about being part of an organisation that puts people at the heart of all we do and provides opportunities to make a real difference by enhancing every life we touch.
We currently have the following opportunity:
Training Officer, Home Assessment Recovery Team (HART) - PKC14290
£34,424 - £37,784
Based at Pullar House, Perth
Are you passionate about helping people learn, develop and feel confident in their practice?
If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic Training Officer to join the Home Assessment Recovery Team (HART), supporting both HART and HART Discharge to Assess services across Perth and Kinross.
HART supports people to recover, regain independence and achieve the best possible outcomes following illness, a change in circumstances or discharge from hospital. As Training Officer, you will make an important contribution by helping to ensure that colleagues have the knowledge, practical skills and confidence required to provide safe, effective and person-centred care.
Working closely with managers, coordinators, frontline colleagues and partner professionals, you will:
- Plan, develop, deliver and evaluate engaging training for individuals and groups.
- Coordinate and support the induction of new employees, helping them to progress confidently into their roles.
- Identify learning needs and adapt training in response to changing service priorities, practice developments and feedback.
- Support mandatory and refresher training, including the annual coordination of moving and handling requirements.
- Manage training records, course bookings, invitations, learning materials and associated administrative arrangements.
- Review and mark work completed following training, providing constructive guidance and ongoing learning support.
- Coordinate medication competency and sign-off arrangements, working with colleagues to promote safe and consistent practice.
- Support staff with shadowing plans, lone-working preparation and other practice-based learning.
- Contribute to the development and review of guidance, training resources and learning sessions relating to areas such as medication practice, record keeping, incident reporting, reablement, falls, frailty and mobility.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external partners to share learning, strengthen practice and support continuous improvement.
You will have the autonomy to plan and manage your workload, respond flexibly to changing service demands and balance scheduled training, induction activity, development work and individual staff support.
You will also contribute to quality assurance and workforce development by identifying skills gaps, evaluating the effectiveness of learning and advising managers on training priorities.
This is a varied and rewarding opportunity to influence the experience of colleagues from the beginning of their employment and throughout their ongoing development. You will be joining a service that values learning, collaboration, professional curiosity and continuous improvement.
The post will be based at Pullar House in Perth, with travel throughout Perth and Kinross required to support teams and deliver learning in different locations.
Therefore a full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes may be required, as the role involves travel throughout Perth and Kinross. Any essential requirement regarding driving should be applied in line with the Council’s reasonable-adjustment arrangements.
Please note, we are currently unable to offer sponsorship for this post.
Skills & Experience Required
We are looking for an approachable, organised and proactive individual who enjoys developing others and can create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
You will bring experience of working in health and social care, learning and development, or another relevant training environment. You should be confident in planning and delivering learning to both groups and individuals, while adapting your approach to meet different levels of experience and learning needs.
You will be able to demonstrate:
- Experience of delivering training, coaching, mentoring or practice-development activities.
- The ability to explain information clearly and make learning relevant, accessible and engaging.
- Strong presentation, facilitation and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to motivate, encourage and constructively support colleagues.
- Good organisational skills, with the ability to plan ahead, manage competing priorities and respond to changes at short notice.
- Confidence in working independently and using your professional judgement, while remaining connected to the wider service.
- The ability to develop positive working relationships with frontline staff, managers and partner organisations.
- An understanding of safe, person-centred practice and the operational demands affecting health and social care services.
- Experience of maintaining accurate training records and monitoring staff progress.
- Good digital skills and the ability to prepare training resources, manage information and produce clear reports.
- A commitment to equality, continuous learning, quality improvement and positive outcomes for people who receive support.
Experience of supporting employees through induction, vocational qualifications or competency-based learning would be an advantage. Knowledge or experience relating to medication practice, moving and handling, lone working, reablement or other areas of mandatory social care learning would also be beneficial.
You will be comfortable working with a wide range of people and able to provide supportive challenge where this is needed. Most importantly, you will be committed to helping colleagues develop the confidence and competence they need to provide consistently high-quality care.
You should hold:
- SVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, or an equivalent relevant qualification; and/or
- PDA Level 6 in Planning and Delivering Training Sessions to Groups, or a willingness to work towards this qualification.
A relevant qualification in learning and development, training, assessment, health and social care, or a related discipline would also be welcomed.
You should have, or be able to demonstrate:
- Relevant experience within a health and social care environment.
- Experience of planning, delivering and evaluating learning for groups and individuals.
- Experience of coaching, mentoring or supporting the development of others.
- Knowledge of adult learning principles and an ability to adapt learning for different needs and styles.
- Strong communication, presentation, organisational and administrative skills.
- The ability to maintain accurate records and prepare clear learning materials and reports.
Experience of supporting staff undertaking SVQs or other vocational qualifications would be advantageous.
The successful candidate must be able to work independently, manage a varied workload and build effective relationships with colleagues, managers and partner organisations. Flexibility, reliability and a commitment to continuous improvement are essential.
