Pay: £85.44 – £99.00 per day depending on experience

Job description

We are currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to support secondary-aged students with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs in a specialist education setting in Walsall.

This is a full-time agency role ideal for someone passionate about supporting young people who may struggle within mainstream education and require additional emotional, behavioural and learning support.

The successful candidate will play a key role in helping students engage with learning, develop confidence and build positive relationships within the school environment.

The role

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to secondary-aged pupils with SEMH needs
• Support students both inside and outside the classroom
• Assist the class teacher with lesson delivery and classroom management
• Help students regulate emotions and behaviours using positive strategies
• Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
• Encourage engagement, independence and positive outcomes

Requirements

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND/SEMH needs
• Experience in schools, alternative provisions, youth work, care or similar settings
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
• Calm, patient and resilient approach
• Ability to build rapport with challenging or disengaged learners

Desirable

• Team Teach training
• Experience supporting ASD, ADHD or behavioural needs
• Teaching Assistant qualification
• Youth work or mentoring background
