Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic nurse to join the Surgical Emergency Unit / Ward 17 as a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager. You will be a highly skilled nurse with excellent clinical knowledge. You will demonstrate excellent care and a clear understanding of how the Trust values translate to our everyday practice. On this unit, no two days are the same: it is a fast paced environment that strives to provide excellent assessment, efficient treatment and high quality patient care. SEU is a 20 bedded assessment unit that provides same day emergency care for a diverse range of acutely unwell surgical patients. We also have a triage area that consists of 6 trolleys and 19 chairs, where we provide initial assessment for patients referred via their GP, Walk in centre or from A&E. In addition to this, we run an ambulatory clinic (Mon - Fri) which allows investigations, such as CT/Ultrasound scans to be done efficiently and at short notice. This clinic helps to prevent hospital admissions whilst positively impacting patient experience. The role is for 37.5hours per week worked in line with the demands of the ward. The ability to be flexible is a must as you will be required to work flexibly over the seven day a week including nights. A willingness to undertake additional study and personal development is imperative. - Assist the Ward or Department Manager in managing the Ward or Department, deputising for them in their absence
- Act as a role model to other staff by participating in direct patient care demonstrating an advanced level of practice and knowledge, encouraging the expansion of nurses skills and knowledge
- Provide assistance to junior staff in the assessment, planning and delivery of care
- Under the direction of the Ward/Departmental Manager, take an active role in Clinical Governance issues within the area of responsibility
- Ensure Wirral Hospital objective, policies, protocols and guidelines are adhered to by all staff
- Assist the Ward/Departmental Manager in encouraging effective and timely verbal and/or written communications to patients/clients, relatives, visitors and colleagues
- Take a proactive role in developing effective and supportive teamwork.
