We have an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and passionate team at HMP Wayland as a family support worker. This role requires you to support the families of those we support in our care.
You will assess the needs of those family members by completing a comprehensive assessment and along with the family member a SMART care plan.
You will have the opportunity to facilitate family days for those you support.
You will deliver group interventions for those you work with.
You will have flexibility to promote and develop the service
Hours of work are Monday - Friday 08.00-16.00
You will have 25 days (plus bank holidays) which will rise by one day for every year you work to a maximum of 30 days.
starting salary is £26,298 rising to a potential £28,000 in line with our yearly appraisal process

Family Support Worker – HMP Wayland 37.5 hrs per week
We have an opportunity to join our HMP Wayland team on a permanent full time contract 37.5 hrs per week.
The Role
As a family Support Worker, you will support our clients and their families to reach their goals and change their lives for the better. You will be part of a passionate and skilled team, contributing to the provision of tailored interventions and recovery approaches. Your main role will be to support the families of our clients who either have substance use issues themselves or who need support with the challenges of having a loved one in custody.
Part of your role will be to work with our clients to deliver specific tailor made interventions around family relationships and relationship building.
You will be required to work directly with offenders delivering effective care-planned support using appropriate models, interventions, and approaches tailored to meet the individual needs of the client group. Previous experience of working within rehabilitation, treatment, and re-offending prevention services would be beneficial.
About You
To join us as a Family Support worker at HMP Wayland, you will need:
- Relevant experience of working in health and social care, ideally within the field of problematic substance use, mental health or another comparable field
- Evidence of effective partnership working and the ability to network for the benefit of the client and service
- Evidence of managing a busy caseload or tasks and excellent organisational skills
- To be proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook and Word and be familiar with database management systems
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Have an understanding of complex issues presented by people entering custody
- Determined, with a drive to succeed and a willingness to learn
- Passionate and enthusiastic about making a real difference to the lives of people we support
