General Catering Assistant

King’s is looking to appoint a general catering assistant to work within a team of 38 staff in the catering department. Working in a modern well-equipped environment this position assists the delivery of lunches to over 1750 people on a daily basis during term time and regular school functions throughout the term.

Main duties and Responsibilities:

• setting up refreshments for morning break

• setting up servery counters ready for lunch service

• serving lunch in our Rushmere kitchen and cleaning up afterwards

• cleaning areas in the main dining room

• assist with setting up of hospitality events

• using dishwashers, cleaning, restocking of cutlery and crockery

• assisting with function work (setting up, serving and clearing)

• basic food preparation

• serving pupils

As the School continues to develop and grow, staff may be required to work across more than one School site, including the new Junior School campus due to open in 2028. Flexibility to work across locations, where appropriate to the role, is therefore expected.

Person Specification

The successful candidate should have:

• the ability to work within a team in a fast-paced, pressurised kitchen environment whilst maintaining high standards

• good communication skills with an approachable manner - contact with pupils and staff is on a daily basis and maintaining open communication is essential

• experience of catering is desirable, but full training can be provided

• basic knowledge of food hygiene would be an advantage, but full training can be offered

• an understanding of allergy awareness is preferred along with level 2 food hygiene training, but full training will be provided (desirable)
