The successful candidate will join a collaborative and supportive department, delivering engaging lessons that develop students’ understanding of Latin language, classical civilisation, literature, and historical context. The school offers excellent support for Early Career Teachers alongside opportunities for experienced teachers to continue developing their practice.

The successful candidate will:

• Teach Latin across Key Stages 3 and 4, with opportunities to contribute at Key Stage 5.

• Plan and deliver engaging lessons that develop students’ knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, translation, and classical texts.

• Inspire students to explore Roman history, mythology, literature, and the influence of the classical world.

• Support students of all abilities through inclusive and differentiated teaching strategies.

• Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Latin examinations.

• Develop students’ analytical skills, confidence, and appreciation of classical languages.

• Contribute to curriculum development and the creation of ambitious schemes of work.

• Support enrichment opportunities including trips, clubs, lectures, and wider Classics activities.

• Assess student progress and provide clear, constructive feedback.

• Contribute positively to the wider academic and pastoral life of the school.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a candidate who:

• Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or is working towards QTS.

• Has a degree in Classics, Latin, Ancient History, or a related subject.

• Demonstrates strong subject knowledge and a genuine passion for classical education.

• Has the ability to inspire students through engaging and challenging teaching.

• Is committed to high standards of achievement, behaviour, and participation.

• Uses creative teaching approaches to develop language skills, confidence, and critical thinking.

• Is reflective, enthusiastic, and committed to continuous professional development.

• Works collaboratively within a supportive and successful department.

• Is keen to contribute to Classics enrichment, trips, and wider school opportunities.
