Oddments are a Christian theatre charity, touring drama with a Christian message across the UK into churches, schools and prisons. We have a heart for mission, and a passion for creating innovative and thought-provoking drama, which tells a story of faith in an engaging way.
Ultimately, we are looking for the person who will lead Oddments into the future.
We are seeking a new Director, to come alongside our current director in a deputy role for 6-9 months, before taking over responsibility for the charity if both feel that it is still the right move. We are looking for someone who wants to see Oddments’ ministry continue, and who has a vision for how they would take the charity into its next chapter.
Day-to-day responsibilities of the role include:
- Managing admin staff and Team Lead
- Planning and producing shows
- Directing rehearsals (or bring in external director)
- Handling finances
- Implementing policy & procedures, such as Health and Safety
- Promoting the charity, for example at some Christian conferences
- Communicating with trustees to ensure good governance
- Interviewing and auditioning staff and freelance actors
The role could also include elements of touring with the acting team, communicating with supporters and helping to secure bookings for shows. As a charity, it is often the case that multiple staff members are involved in particular areas, such as bookings and preparing newsletters, at certain busy times of the year.

Clarifications on Director Role Queries: (updated 24th June)
1. The successful candidate will initially be appointed as Deputy Director for a six-month transition period. At the end of that period, subject to satisfactory performance and mutual agreement, it is intended that they will move into the Director role.
2. This role will require a DBS check and Safeguarding Training, to be provided by Oddments. We also require proof of the right to work in the UK.
3. The working pattern will generally be normal office hours, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, based from our office in Yeovil. However, flexibility is required for occasional evening or weekend work (e.g. trustee meetings, prison shows or church visits to raise support), travel and overnight stays (e.g. conferences) and longer periods of touring. The amount of touring will depend to some extent on the way in which the new Director decides to run the charity and manage staff. As Deputy Director, they will be required to tour with the team, to get a good understanding of our work. Travelling and touring is likely to involve driving company vehicles.
4. Salary will depend on experience, and we intend a slight increase during the move between the roles of Deputy Director and Director, but both salaries will be in the banding suggested (£28000 - £31000).
