The School of Immunology & Microbial Sciences is based within the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine. This role is based in the Department of Infectious Diseases, which brings together expertise across microbiology, immunology, clinical sciences, data science and artificial intelligence. The Department offers a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative environment, with strong links to clinical partners and access to outstanding research infrastructure and cross faculty initiatives.
About the role
The successful candidate will work in proximity with international partners in Uganda, Ethiopia, South Africa, Italy and Spain. They will be responsible for providing high-quality support and effective project management for the CARE-AFRICA EDCTP3 funded project. They will have an Undergraduate degree (ideally science-related), plus relevant experience in project management.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing large-scale research or health projects (€1M+ budgets, multi-country consortia), including oversight of budgets, timelines, deliverables, and reporting.
They will coordinate consortia involving academic institutions, African research partners, ministries of health, and implementing organizations. The candidate will be in contact with EDCTP and EU funder, for proposal development, grant agreements, financial compliance, milestone tracking, and periodic narrative and financial reporting. The candidate will be responsible for organising consortium meetings, workshops, and scientific events, including agenda preparation, venue sourcing, and coordinating international travel and accommodation for partners.
This is an exciting €4.8M project Supported by the Global Health EDCTP3 and EU Horizon. The CARE-AFRICA project is developing an innovative AI-based tool to guide diagnostics and treatment of diarrhoeal diseases in children under 5 in sub-Saharan Africa, using a combination of local and globally sourced data.
This is a part time role (14 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 30 Apr 2029.
Research staff at King's are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. This entitlement, from the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers , applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7. - Demonstrated expertise managing large-scale research or health projects (€1M+ budgets, multi-country consortia), including oversight of budgets, timelines, deliverables, and reporting
- Proven experience coordinating consortia involving academic institutions, African research partners, ministries of health, and implementing organisations
- Familiarity with EDCTP and EU funder requirements, including proposal development, grant agreements, financial compliance, milestone tracking, and periodic narrative and financial reporting
- Experience organizing consortium meetings, workshops, and scientific events, including agenda preparation, venue sourcing, and coordinating international travel and accommodation for partners
- Strong monitoring and evaluation (M&E) skills, including logframes, KPI tracking, risk registers, and producing donor-ready reports
- Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Asana, Smartsheet) and standard office software for reporting and budget tracking
- Experience in making orders and tracking budget expenditure
Desirable:
- Relevant degree in public health, international development, life sciences, or a related field; PM certification (PMP, PRINCE2)
