As a supplier for the provision of maintenance trades to HM Prison Service, Hays is seeking to recruit a General Building Operative for HMP Hewell. This is an exciting opportunity to work within the prison service and can often lead to permanent opportunities.
As part of the Works Department, you will be responsible for both reactive repairs and planned and preventative maintenance. Currently, the prison has several refurbishment and general day-to-day maintenance projects underway. As such, the prison require a general building operative who can complete general tasks such as assisting other trades, putting up signage, general basic painting and carpentry duties, using drills and hand tools and fire alarm/ emergency lighting checks. Working days & Hours
Monday to Thursday – 07:30 until 16:30 (1 hour unpaid lunch)
Friday – 07:30 until 15:30 (1 hour unpaid lunch)
You may be asked to do a weekend, this is paid at time and a half. What you'll need to succeed
Previous experience in a prison/ public sector is not required for this role. The nature of the role requires candidates to be security-conscious and able to challenge potential compromises and risks, you will also need to be reliable and consistent, level-headed and have exceptional interpersonal skills. Full training on working within a prison is provided by the establishment/ department. You must be able to pass a full prison security clearance and enhanced DBS (if required).

You must hold a valid passport or Full Birth Certificate & Photo Driving Licence in your current address.
You must have proof of National Insurance and proof of address dated in the past 3 months.
