Project Lands Manager

About The Role

Balfour Beatty Power Transmission & Distribution is helping to build and strengthen the electricity network that will support the UK's transition to a low-carbon future. We are now seeking an experienced

Project Lands Manager to join our team, supporting the delivery of a major power transmission project across Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire.

Based in Market Weighton and surrounding sites, you'll lead all land-related activities across the project, acting as the critical link between our delivery teams, clients, landowners, agents, tenants and wider stakeholders. This is a highly visible role with significant responsibility, offering the opportunity to influence project success from planning through to final reinstatement and handover.

What you'll be doing

As Project Lands Manager, you'll take ownership of the project's land management strategy and ensure all stakeholder commitments, land access requirements and land-related obligations are effectively coordinated and delivered.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Leading all land-related activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Managing relationships with landowners, occupiers, tenants, land agents and client lands teams.
  • Acting as the primary escalation point for land-related matters and stakeholder concerns.
  • Establishing and implementing robust land access and compliance procedures.
  • Ensuring construction activities are delivered in accordance with land agreements, planning obligations and statutory requirements.
  • Managing access arrangements, working areas and site locations to support programme delivery.
  • Overseeing land drainage requirements, approvals, reinstatement activities and restoration works.
  • Supporting compensation discussions and helping to resolve land-related commercial matters.
  • Maintaining stakeholder commitments registers, approvals trackers and land management records.
  • Working closely with environmental, ecology, planning, design and construction teams to ensure project compliance.
  • Managing subcontractors delivering land management, drainage and restoration works.
  • Identifying and mitigating land-related risks while driving opportunities for improved project delivery.
  • Leading, developing and mentoring a team of lands professionals and Agricultural Liaison Officers.

Who we're looking for

We're looking for an experienced stakeholder and land management professional who can successfully navigate the complexities of major infrastructure delivery.

You'll Ideally Have

  • Experience in a Land Manager, Project Lands Manager, Estates Manager, Rural Surveyor or similar role.
  • A strong background working on major infrastructure, utilities, energy, highways, rail or civil engineering projects.
  • Proven experience managing relationships with landowners, agents, occupiers and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of land access requirements, statutory processes, planning obligations and stakeholder agreements.
  • Experience overseeing land restoration, reinstatement and agricultural considerations.
  • Strong negotiation, communication and conflict-resolution skills.
  • The ability to balance stakeholder interests with project delivery requirements.
  • Excellent organisational and risk management capabilities.
  • Previous experience leading and developing teams.

Ideally You'll Also Have

  • Experience within the electricity transmission, utilities or renewable energy sectors.
  • Understanding of agricultural operations, drainage systems and soil management.
  • Professional qualifications or membership of a relevant body such as RICS, CAAV or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting compensation processes and land-related commercial negotiations.
