Practice Nurse

Job summary
We are seeking a caring and compassionate Practice Nurse with Respiratory training to join our friendly team in Pudsey, Leeds. This is an essential role within the practice team, requiring a dedication to support the delivery of the highest standards of patient care.

This role is for a fixed term of 12 months starting mid-December to cover maternity leave. The post will include a two-week handover working alongside the current postholder and, working alongside the Lead Practice Nurse.

A clean driving licence is essential for performing home visits when required. A full list of duties can be found in the job description below.

About us
Hillfoot is a friendly, welcoming surgery. We believe in providing a stable and supportive working environment for our staff, and promote an open, blame-free culture.

We have 4 Partners, 3 Salaried GPs, 1 ACP, 2 Practice Nurses and 1 HCA. We also have a large administrative and care navigation team who is overseen by the Practice Manager. We are part of West Leeds PCN and together we provide many additional services such as dietetics, pharmacy support and physiotherapy.

We are also a training practice and have GP Trainees and regular medical students from the University of Leeds.

We are rated Good in all areas by CQC.

Job responsibilities
Clinical practice:
Practice independently in accordance with NMC code of conduct and with reference to practice guidelines, appropriately referring to GPs.

Carry out a wide range of treatment room duties, e.g. wound care, venepuncture, blood pressure checks, ECGs, injections and immunisations, leg ulcer management, if appropriately trained.

To actively encourage, develop and provide general and specific health screening/health promotion to the practice population, with referral to the doctors as necessary, in the areas of Travel, Hypertension screening, Diet, Smoking cessation and other lifestyle factors, as agreed within practice protocols.

To participate in the cervical screening programme by raising patient awareness, competently carrying out cervical sampling, and ensuring results are delivered and acted upon appropriately. To keep an audit of results for competency.

To help in the development and maintenance of Chronic Disease Registers and autonomously provide clinical nursing interventions that will support the management of both National and Local Programmes e.g. Asthma, COPD, Diabetes, Coronary Heart Disease, as appropriately trained.

To participate in the anticoagulant management clinic after appropriate training.

To participate/work autonomously in Contraceptive Health clinics, if appropriately trained.

To assist with minor surgery, if necessary.

Ensure continuation of own personal and professional development, facilitated by utilisation of clinical supervision networks.

To work with due regard for Health and Safety standards within the practice, including infection control procedures.

Maintain accurate documentation of care and utilisation of IT.

To participate in the development of protocols/guidelines and procedures, as required.

To adhere to all practice policies and procedures.

To report any risks to the Practice Manager.

To attend Practice Nurse meetings.

To attend practice meetings, as appropriate.

To complete all necessary mandatory training and eLearning modules.
