On 1 April 2026, NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) became one national organisation, focused on continuity today and a stronger, more connected service for tomorrow.

About The Organisation

PSD Scotland unites expertise from NES and NSS in a way that will allow us to accelerate national programmes to support the NHS to deliver better care, now and in the future. We support staff with education and training, provide the tools and data that improve services, and run vital national functions such as procurement, logistics and blood, tissue and cell services.

The Post

As a major division within PSD Scotland, the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) plays a vital role not only in the health of the people of Scotland but also on an international scale – through our leading position in new product development, biomedical research and donor services. Our goal is to maintain the highest standards to patient care whilst remaining internationally competitive.

The Candidate

We are looking for a Senior Donor Carer to join our existing team and provide a high standard of care to blood and plasma donors. You should be friendly, approachable and confident working with people, with the ability to contribute positively to a busy team environment. The post will also involve transporting staff and equipment to community sessions, supporting safe session set-up and dismantling, and working across the Highland region as required.

We are looking for a candidate who brings the following values, skills and attributes to their role:

• Comfortable following clinical procedures and delivering safe, high‑quality donor care
• Confident supporting nervous donors and recognising when to seek nursing support
• Able to use IT systems accurately and maintain clear, reliable records
• Happy working independently as well as part of a close, supportive team
• Able to participate in loading, unloading and assembling community session donation equipment safely and efficiently.

In summary, the successful candidate will be a compassionate, reliable and practical team member who can deliver safe, high-quality donor care while working flexibly across fixed and community donation sessions. They will demonstrate strong communication skills, careful attention to detail, confidence in following procedures, and the ability to support donors and colleagues in a calm, professional and reassuring manner.

You must be flexible and willing to work variable hours across Mon-Sun and regular late evenings

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme/Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who have lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.

Location and Working Pattern

The location is Inverness & North Blood Donor Centre, Raigmore Hospital.

The work pattern is Monday-Sunday, various hours per week are available

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK and have entitlement to work in the UK for the post in which you will be employed.
