Welcome from the Headteacher
Thank you for your interest in joining the Maths department at Havant Academy.
We are a school with a powerful sense of purpose. We serve a community with enormous potential and we believe passionately that every child deserves access to a rich and ambitious education.
Over the last few years the academy has been on a significant improvement journey. Through strong leadership, clear systems and an unwavering commitment to high expectations, we are building a school where students are ready, respectful and safe, and where teachers can focus on delivering great lessons every day.
Our work is beginning to show real impact. Progress 8 has improved significantly and outcomes in several subjects, including maths are improving.
This is an exciting time to join Havant Academy. We are now looking for a talented and ambitious teacher of maths to join the maths department under the leadership of our excellent Head of Mathematics. Applications are welcome from teachers seeking additional responsibility, and/or are seeking to work part-time.
If you share our belief in ambition, opportunity and community, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Vicki Dillon-Thiselton
Headteacher
About Havant Academy
Havant Academy is a co-educational secondary school serving the community of Leigh Park in Hampshire.
Our school is driven by a clear moral purpose: to ensure that every child receives the education they deserve, regardless of background or starting point.
Our ethos is rooted in three simple principles: Ready. Respectful. Safe.
These values underpin every aspect of life at the academy and create a culture where students can learn and teachers can teach.
Our improvement journey
The academy has undergone significant transformation in recent years, with clear improvements in behaviour, attendance and academic outcomes.
Key highlights include:
● Attendance rising significantly over four years (from 82.8% to 89.7%).
● Persistent absence reduced by over 21 percentage points.
● Progress 8 improving year on year.
● A 37% reduction in suspensions among SEND pupils following behaviour reforms.
● A strong safeguarding culture.
At the same time, we have invested heavily in teaching quality through an instructional coaching model using StepLab, enabling staff to continually refine their classroom practice. We are committed to the continuous growth of our staff:
● For ECTs: You will be mentored by an experienced practitioner and supported through our excellent CPD package , ensuring a smooth and successful transition into your teaching career.
● For Experienced Staff: If you are seeking additional responsibility, we provide clear pathways for leadership. We will fully support you in completing NPQs (such as NPQLTD or NPQSL) as part of your professional development.

Why Havant?
A School with Purpose in the Heart of its Community
Havant Academy sits at the heart of Leigh Park, one of the largest communities in Hampshire and a place with a strong identity, history and community spirit.
Like many communities across the country, Leigh Park has faced significant economic challenges over recent decades. But what defines this area is not disadvantage — it is resilience, pride and potential.
Our school exists to ensure that every young person here has access to the opportunities they deserve.
A School that Matters
At Havant Academy, education is about more than examination results.
For many of our students, school is the place where they discover their confidence, their interests and their future ambitions.
Our work is grounded in a simple belief:
Great schools change lives.
That is why we focus relentlessly on the things that make the greatest difference:
● excellent teaching
● high expectations
● strong relationships
● a culture where every student belongs.
We believe deeply that background should never determine future success.
A School on an Upward Journey
Havant Academy is in the middle of a significant transformation.
Recent improvements include:

The next phase of our journey is about accelerating academic excellence while continuing to strengthen the culture of the school.
A Place Where Teachers Make a Real Difference
Teaching in Leigh Park is both challenging and incredibly rewarding.
Staff at Havant Academy frequently say that what makes the school special is the sense that their work truly matters.
Here, teachers:
● build strong relationships with students and families
● help young people overcome barriers
● see the direct impact of their work on students’ futures.
A Strong Trust Behind the School
Havant Academy is part of the Kemnal Academies Trust, a trust that believes schools should be proud of the communities they serve and ambitious for every child.

Teaching and Learning
At Havant Academy we believe that great teaching transforms lives.
Our teaching and learning model focuses on clarity, consistency and continual improvement.
Rather than relying on one-off training sessions, we have built a culture where teaching improves every week through deliberate practice and coaching.

This approach enables teachers to:
● focus on small, high-impact improvements
● rehearse key techniques with colleagues
● receive regular feedback through supportive coaching cycles.
Our aim is simple: every teacher gets better every year.
A Culture of Professional Growth
Our CPD model ensures that teachers are never working in isolation.
Staff benefit from:
● two hours of professional development every week
● access to the National College training platform
● collaboration across the trust.
This creates a culture where staff are continually improving and students benefit from consistently strong teaching.
Our aim is simple:
To build a school where every classroom delivers excellent learning every day.
