Geography Teacher - Large Community Academy - Coventry
A well-regarded and oversubscribed 11–18 academy in Coventry is seeking a committed and enthusiastic Teacher of Geography to join its established Humanities faculty. The school has undergone significant curriculum refinement in recent years and now benefits from improved outcomes, a calm and purposeful learning environment, and a leadership team focused on long-term academic standards rather than short-term initiatives.
Geography is a strong and popular subject within the school. GCSE uptake is healthy and continues to grow, with students responding positively to the department’s structured and knowledge-rich curriculum. The Role
You will teach Geography across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to contribute to Key Stage 5 depending on experience. The curriculum has been carefully sequenced to build core geographical knowledge, case study depth and exam confidence from Year 7 onwards.
Lessons combine physical and human geography with strong emphasis on map skills, data interpretation and extended writing. Students are accustomed to retrieval practice, modelling and clearly structured lessons, creating focused classrooms where learning time is maximised.
Department & Curriculum Strengths
The Humanities faculty operates collaboratively, with shared planning resources and consistent assessment practices. Regular departmental meetings focus on curriculum refinement, moderation and sharing of best practice.
Fieldwork remains an important component of the Geography offer, with local urban and river studies embedded within the curriculum. The department also supports participation in national geography competitions and enrichment events where possible.
