Occupational Therapist - CAMHS Rotation

Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist, to join the Shropshire Mental Health Rotation, starting the first rotation within in Children and Young People Mental health services (CAMHS) community team.

The Shropshire mental health rotation currently includes 5 clinical areas including both in-patient, and community settings:

• Children and young People (Core CAMHS team) - Shrewsbury & Telford bases
• Inpatient complex care (older adult) Redwoods Centre
• ForensicIn-patient Redwoods Centre
• Crisis and Home treatment Shrewsbury
• Community Mental Health Team, Shrewsbury base

Each rotation is for a 12-month period, changing in November each year. You will be expected to have had experience of working within a multidisciplinary team pre-registration, excellent communication skills and be able to operate your own initiative and participate in supervision from from a senior practitioner. You will provide a range of standardized Occupational Therapy assessments, have effective clinical reasoning and demonstrate a passion for working with people with a range of mental health difficulties. There will be an expectation for some community based roles to travel between sites and community locations within the geographical area covered by individual teams.

Where required, an OT mentor will be allocated to support you through the AHP preceptorship process.

Main duties of the job

• Take responsibility for the management of a complex caseload, which includes specialist assessment (within service specification), care planning in conjunction with service user and carer, evaluation of individual treatment plans (Care Programme Approach and Single Assessment Process).
• Responsible for participating in the setting of quality standards, including the auditing, monitoring and reviewing of practice in line with current clinical guidance practice and policy.
• Assess patient's individual care needs, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care.
• Deliver a range of non-pharmacological interventions following specific occupational therapy assessments to enable understanding of any expression of an unmet need and to maximise an individual's abilities.
• Complete and contribute, where appropriate to robust risk assessments and risk management plans. Deliver and promote positive risk taking, where appropriate, to improve quality of life and maximise occupational performance/independence.
• Maintain an effective reporting system by observing and reporting verbally and in writing on patient conditions.

Job responsibilities
You will be responsible for the occupational therapy assessment of care needs and contributing to the formulation of the persons needs and the development of a relevant plan based upon the persons negotiated goals and relevant evidence-based interventions.

In conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team, will provide occupational therapy interventions to support the person to meet their agreed goals and coordinate and/ or participate in the review of progress towards those goals, utilising recommended outcome measures, involving the service user and any identified carer throughout the clinical pathway.

Qualifications
Essential

• Dip COT or degree in Occupational Therapy
• Health And Care Professions Council Registered Occupational Therapist

Desirable

• CPD Folder evidence of ongoing learning/development

Experience
Essential

• Experience of formulating assessments, planning, co-ordinating and supporting individuals experiencing mental health related difficulties
• Knowledge of the Mental Health NICE Guidelines
• Knowledge and experience of occupational therapy models, interventions, specialist assessments and outcome measures
• Experience of working multiagency and multidisciplinary working

Desirable

• experience of working within a community mental health setting
• experience of working with children, young people and families
• experience of managing a caseload
• experience in developing and facilitating group programmes
