We are looking to appoint a Physics Technician to contribute towards the efficient and smooth running of the Physics Department.
Reports to: Head of Physics and works closely with the Senior Lab Technician. All staff are ultimately responsible to the Headmistress.
Contract: This is a part-time, permanent contract. The first three months will be a probationary period.
Hours of Work: 34 hours per week during Wycombe Abbey Term Time, plus two weeks per annum during school holidays. The working pattern will be agreed with the Senior Lab Technician. Hours include a 1-hour unpaid break for lunch during each shift.
Salary: £18,181.50 - £23,263.35 per annum (based on an FTE of £26,350 - £33,715), depending on experience.
As Physics Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of practical Physics lessons and ensuring the efficient day-to-day operation of the Department. Responsibilities include organising the delivery of equipment and materials for lessons, setting up apparatus, preparing chemicals and resources, maintaining equipment, overseeing stock control and supporting practical examinations.
You will be responsible for clearing away, cleaning and storing equipment after use, carrying out minor repairs, maintaining laboratories to a high standard, trialling new experiments, preparing apparatus for science clubs and open events, and supporting the Department's compliance with Health and Safety requirements.
The successful candidate will be educated to the equivalent of two Science A Levels, ideally including Physics, and have basic computer skills. They will possess excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The ability to communicate effectively, build positive working relationships and adapt to changing priorities is essential.
