University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) is seeking to appoint a Consultant Medical Oncologist in Gastrointestinal (GI) Cancers to join our internationally recognised GI Oncology Service. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a world-leading multidisciplinary team providing specialist care for patients with oesophago-gastric, hepatobiliary, colorectal and carcinoma of unknown primary (CUP) cancers. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative team of medical and clinical oncologists, surgeons, specialist nurses, researchers and allied health professionals, delivering high-quality systemic anti-cancer therapy and contributing to specialist MDTs across a large regional referral network. UCLH hosts specialist OG and CUP services for London Cancer and is a major centre for colorectal and hepatobiliary oncology. The post offers exceptional opportunities for clinical leadership, service development, teaching and research, with access to a wide portfolio of national and international clinical trials and strong academic links with UCL, the UCL Cancer Institute, the Francis Crick Institute and the Proton Beam Therapy Centre. Main duties of the job
The postholder will join the Gastrointestinal (GI) Oncology Service at UCLH and will play a key role in the delivery and development of specialist GI cancer services. The successful candidate will:o Provide expert medical oncology care for patients with gastrointestinal cancers, including oesophago-gastric, hepatobiliary, colorectal and carcinoma of unknown primary (CUP) malignancies.o Deliver systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) in accordance with national and local guidelines, ensuring high-quality, patient-centred care.o Lead and participate in specialist multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, contributing to treatment planning and coordinated cancer care across the London Cancer network.o Conduct outpatient clinics and provide advice on the management of complex GI oncology patients.o Work collaboratively with surgical, clinical oncology, radiology, pathology, palliative care and specialist nursing colleagues to deliver integrated care.o Contribute to the development and delivery of specialist regional services, including oesophago-gastric, hepatobiliary, colorectal and CUP cancer pathways.o Actively participate in clinical research and support recruitment into commercial and non-commercial clinical trials.o Develop academic interests and contribute to translational and clinical research programmes in collaboration with UCL Cancer Institute, the Francis Crick Institute and other academic partners. - Medical degree and completed General Professional Training, or equivalent
- Higher academic degree e.g. MD or PhD (or in final stages of preparation), or evidence of an equivalent level of attainment in research publications
- Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (or equivalent)
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or be within 12 months of obtaining a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or equivalent, in an appropriate specialty at time of interview - exact start date will be discussed with the candidate at interview
- Non-UK trained doctors must provide evidence at interview that they are eligible for full GMC registration and entry on the Specialist Register in Medical Oncology
- Knowledge of the Clinical Governance framework of the NHS (including Research governance) and understanding of current changes in the organisation and management structures of the NHS. Ability to act within these parameters
- Knowledge and understanding of the principles of resource and budgetary Management
- Experience of and commitment to multidisciplinary working
