Secondary Cover Teacher Location: Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, South East England Job Type: Contract, Part-Time Industry: Education and Training Salary: £100–£210 per day About the Role We are seeking a reliable, adaptable and enthusiastic Secondary Cover Teacher to work across secondary schools in Aylesbury and the surrounding areas. The successful candidate will provide high-quality cover teaching in the absence of regular classroom teachers, ensuring students remain engaged and learning continues effectively. Key Responsibilities Provide effective cover teaching for secondary school classes in the absence of the regular teacher. Deliver pre-prepared lesson plans and learning materials effectively. Maintain continuity of learning and ensure students remain engaged throughout lessons. Manage classroom behaviour confidently and promote a positive, respectful learning environment. Monitor student progress and provide appropriate feedback on classwork and assignments. Adapt teaching approaches to suit different classes, subjects and student needs. Communicate professionally with school staff regarding student progress, behaviour and any classroom issues. Follow school policies, safeguarding procedures and behaviour management strategies. Maintain a safe, organised and supportive classroom environment. Required Qualifications and Skills Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Enhanced DBS clearance. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong classroom management abilities. Good understanding of the secondary school curriculum. Ability to adapt quickly to different school environments and teaching styles. Strong organisational and time-management skills. Education Bachelor’s degree in Education or a relevant subject/field. Experience Previous experience in teaching or a cover teaching role is preferred. Experience working within a secondary school environment is advantageous. Desirable Qualifications and Experience Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds. Experience supporting students with different learning needs. Working Conditions Part-time hours on a contract basis. Work within secondary school settings across Aylesbury and the surrounding Buckinghamshire area. Potential requirement to travel between different school locations.
