About The Role
At EDF, Success is Personal. Our Engineering Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship is more than just a job. Earn while you learn, spend your first two years at the National College for Nuclear in Somerset, and gain the skills, qualifications and experience needed for a successful engineering career. You'll develop valuable engineering skills and help deliver Britain's low-carbon energy future.
The Opportunity and Work Location
This four-year apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to complete an Engineering Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship and achieve a BTEC Level 3 qualification, with a starting salary of £17,606.
You'll spend your first two years at the National College for Nuclear based in Somerset, developing practical engineering skills in mechanical, electrical and instrumentation trade disciplines at our industry-leading facilities, including virtual reality environments, while living in outstanding student accommodation. Along the way, you'll build confidence, develop independence and learn alongside other apprentices starting their careers in the industry.
In years 3 and 4, you'll put your learning into practice at Hartlepool nuclear power station, working alongside experienced professionals and gaining real-world experience. By the end of the programme, you'll have achieved recognised qualifications and developed the skills needed for a rewarding career in engineering.
What You’ll Experience
- Specialist training in maintenance and operations within the nuclear industry
- Support and guidance from experienced mentors and engineering teams
- Development of technical, communication and problem-solving skills
- Opportunities to apply your learning to real engineering challenges
- A clear pathway into skilled engineering roles with future career development opportunities
Who You Are
You'll have (or be predicted to achieve) five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above (or equivalent), including Maths, English and two science or technical subjects.
We're looking for enthusiastic individuals with an interest in engineering, a willingness to learn and a positive attitude towards developing new skills.
If successful at the application and video interview stage, you'll be invited to attend a face-to-face Assessment Centre, with the opportunity to progress to a final interview.
Security Vetting
To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the last five years.
Pay, Benefits And Culture
Alongside a starting salary of £17,606 per annum and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days and more.
At EDF, we believe there are multiple definitions of success. That’s why we offer you the freedom to develop a career that’s unique to you. Here, Success is Personal – it’s your journey, powered by us.
Everyone is welcome at EDF; we’re committed to building a workforce that reflects gender balance, social mobility, and inclusion of minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities, and those with disabilities.
As a Disability Confident employer, we're committed to creating an accessible recruitment process and encourage candidates to tell us about any support they may need. Should you disclose a disability and meet the minimum criteria, you’ll be progressed to the first stage of the selection process. Some of our roles at EDF attract large volumes of applications. When this happens, we’ll apply the Disability Confident scheme’s guidance on taking practical and appropriate steps to select disabled candidates who best meet the minimum criteria for the job.
Our Recruitment Process
We'll guide you through every stage and keep you updated along the way. You'll be supported by real people, with opportunities to ask questions, learn more and receive feedback where possible.
