A warm and supportive SEND school in Middleton is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic SEND Teacher to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis from September. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEND teacher or a primary/secondary teacher with a strong interest in SEND who is passionate about delivering high-quality teaching and supporting pupils with additional needs to achieve their full potential.
About the Role
You will take responsibility for planning, delivering, and assessing engaging lessons that are adapted to meet the individual needs of pupils. You will create a positive, structured, and inclusive learning environment, supporting pupils with their academic, social, emotional, and communication development.
The role will involve working closely with teaching assistants, SENCOs, and the wider school team to ensure pupils receive consistent and personalised support throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the needs of SEND learners.
- Assess, monitor, and track pupil progress, adapting teaching where required.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment.
- Support pupils with a range of additional needs, including communication, learning, and behavioural needs.
- Develop positive relationships with pupils and encourage their confidence and independence.
- Work closely with teaching assistants, SENCOs, and other professionals to support individual pupil needs.
- Uphold the school's behaviour and safeguarding policies.
- Support pupils' academic, social, emotional, and personal development.
- Fulfil all professional responsibilities in line with the Teachers' Standards.
The Ideal Candidate
- Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Has experience teaching within a SEND setting or experience supporting pupils with additional needs.
- Strong understanding of adapting the curriculum to meet individual learning needs.
- Confident classroom and behaviour management skills.
- Patient, resilient, nurturing, and committed to supporting pupils with SEND.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Has the right to work in the UK and is available full-time.
- Holds or is willing to obtain a Child and Adult Workforce DBS .
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience working within a specialist SEND school.
- Experience supporting pupils with ASC, SEMH, PMLD, or complex needs.
- SEND-specific qualifications or training.
- Experience using communication strategies such as Makaton, PECS, or AAC.
