Horizon English School Town Square is currently recruiting an Arabic B Teacher or an August 2027 start.

About Horizon Town Square:

Opening in September 2027, Horizon English School Town Square will bring over 35 years of educational excellence from our outstanding Jumeirah campus to the heart of Town Square Dubai.

An all-through British curriculum school for ages 3-18, the new campus will launch with FS1 to Year 8, growing year by year to Year 13.

The school will combine academic excellence, wellbeing and community spirit in a purpose-built, state of the art environment.

Role Purpose:

Arabic teachers help every student, either native or non-native speakers, become a confident and capable learner of Arabic. Students should leave with a real connection to the language, culture and national identity of the UAE.

Arabic is central to life at Horizon, not a bolt-on to the curriculum. It is taught to the same standard as every other subject and held to the same expectations. Arabic teachers brings our target culture to life:

• Everyone counts: every student learns Arabic from their own starting point. Their home language and culture are valued, and barriers to belonging and participation are removed.

• Everyone contributes: Arabic is shared across the school community through assemblies, events, displays and partnership with families, not kept to the Arabic classroom.

• Everyone succeeds: high expectations for native and non-native learners alike, with no lowered ambition for any group.

Role & Responsibilities:

1. Safeguarding and welfare

   • Put the safety and welfare of students above all other considerations.

   • Follow the safeguarding portfolio, the code of conduct and teaching and learning policies.

   • Stay alert to any sign that a student may be at risk of harm, and report it promptly through the school's procedures.

   • Treat every member of the community (students, parents, colleagues and governors) with consideration and respect.

   2. Teaching and learning

   • Plan and teach well-sequenced lessons in line with UAE Ministry of Education Arabic curriculum requirements, KHDA expectations and the school's schemes of work, for native or non-native students as allocated.

   • Use the Horizon habits for great teaching in every lesson: subject knowledge, relationships, routines and hard thinking.

   • Build all four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing), with a strong focus on reading fluency and comprehension.

   • Create a stimulating classroom environment that students feel ownership of, including high-quality Arabic displays.

   3. Inclusive practice (Wave 1)

   • Take responsibility for the progress and wellbeing of every student you teach, including students of determination, able, gifted and talented students, and students new to Arabic.

   • Adapt teaching using the intervention menu's Wave 1 strategies. Examples: pre-teaching vocabulary, visual cues, more processing time, graphic organisers and reducing the language load.

   • Group students by proficiency where it helps, without lowering expectations or separating them unnecessarily.

   • Implement SSP and IEP strategies in Arabic lessons, contribute to IEP reviews, and share progress against IEP targets with parents as directed.

   • Direct LSAs and teaching assistants effectively, and encourage student independence.

   4. Assessment and progress

   • Assess, monitor, record and report on progress against individual starting points and curriculum expectations, using the school's assessment cycle.

   • Set clear individual and group targets, and give timely feedback that shows students how to improve.

   • Prepare students for internal, external and benchmark Arabic assessments, and use the results to plan next steps.

   • Contribute to progress meetings and cohort tracking, and spot students who need extra challenge or support.

   5. Classroom culture and behaviour

   • Keep a calm, well-managed classroom with a strong work ethos and positive relationships.

   • Build a culture of achievement where students want to do their best and are recognised for it.

   • Address behaviour consistently, in line with the school's behaviour policy.

   • Manage classroom resources, space and time efficiently, and look after books and materials.

   1. Pastoral care

   • Know your students well, and make wellbeing check-ins and relationships part of everyday practice.

   • Work closely with form tutors and Heads of Year on any concerns about a student's wellbeing, attendance or progress.

   • Take registers accurately and on time.

   7. Arabic in the life of the school

   • Help make Arabic visible and valued across the school through displays, signage, assemblies and student voice.

   • Promote Emirati culture, heritage and national identity in line with KHDA priorities.

   • Support colleagues and families who are new to Arabic.

   8. Parent partnership

   • Keep regular, warm communication with parents about progress and how they can support Arabic at home.

   • Attend parent consultations, workshops and events such as Parent Majlis, and support Friends of Horizon.

   9. Department and school improvement

   • Work collaboratively with the Arabic team on planning, moderation and shared resources.

   • Take part in lesson observations, co-planning, peer observation and coaching, and act on feedback.

   • Contribute to the Arabic improvement plan, KHDA self-evaluation and inspection readiness.

   • Contribute to developing, putting into practice and reviewing school policies.

Professional and general responsibilities

• Model the Horizon values in all language and interactions.

• Keep subject knowledge and pedagogy up to date. Take part in performance management, CPD and INSET.

• Take on duties, cover, extra-curricular activities and whole-school events (assemblies, performances, sports days, trips) as reasonably directed.

• Attend and contribute to staff meetings.

• Keep professional confidentiality.

• Follow all school policies, procedures and handbooks.

• Live and work in accordance with the laws and customs of the UAE, and comply with school procedures on accommodation, healthcare, travel, leave and official documentation as set out in the staff handbook.

Person Specification:

• Bachelors Degree in Education / PGCE

• UAE MoE Arabic curriculum; KHDA expectations for Arabic

• Second language acquisition; adapting for SEND in Arabic; reading interventions

• Successful Arabic teaching in a UAE school or international setting

• Experience in a British curriculum school

• Strong classroom practice and behaviour for learning; using assessment to plan; clear communication with parents

• Bilingual communication (Arabic and English); using educational technology
