Teacher of Primary School Physical Education

Temporary, Full-time

UWCSEA has vacancy for August 2027 at its Dover Campus for a Teacher of Primary Physical Education (Ages 4 – 11).

The successful candidate will be a highly resourceful, innovative and forward-thinking collaborator. An individual who is passionate about delivering an exciting PE curriculum with at least 3 years' experience teaching PE as a concept-based discipline. The candidate will join a vibrant and successful K-12 PE Department with regular events taking place throughout the year.

Main Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for Primary School (PS) PE & swimming classes, supporting, nurturing and taking a genuine interest in the holistic development of all children.

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of a PE programme that supports and encourages the development of all learner's skills, knowledge and understanding of: health, physical well-being and game play; ensuring an inclusive teaching approach with appropriate differentiation/adaptation.

  • Contribute to the implementation and review of the PS PE curriculum and resources, in liaison with the Head of PS PE.

  • Employ a wide variety of learning and teaching strategies including the use of new technologies to make learning visible, effective and enjoyable.

  • Be supportive of a child-centred approach to learning and able to nurture high levels of student agency.

  • Explore and develop meaningful interdisciplinary opportunities across the primary teaching community.

  • Maintain student records as required; assess, observe, record and report on student progress, including various approaches of reporting to parents.

  • Ensure excellent lines of communication with parents through verbal communication, online learning platforms, and via face to face meetings.

  • Explore and support meaningful links with local service and global concerns in the Primary School.

  • Work in partnership with the Head of PS PE and Primary Head of Grades, by taking an active role in coordinating events for primary students; for example, community sports days, swimming galas, and sharing the learning etc.

  • Successfully working alongside teaching assistants in PE lessons to improve pupils' progress.

  • Provide a safe and nurturing environment for all students.

  • To follow up with both students and parents to highlight any challenges and/or celebrate successes.

  • Experience of teaching swimming with the relevant qualifications.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with pupils, colleagues, and parents; building strong relationships with all members of the school community.

  • Attend educational visits, such as residential and day trips (as required).

  • Be genuinely interested in making a positive and proactive contribution to the wider life of the school.

  • Assist with any other duties, tasks or jobs as may be reasonably requested by school leaders.

  • Follow the UWCSEA Professional Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Code of Conduct .

  • Teach in line with the UWCSEA Teacher Standards

Person Specifications

  • A relevant degree, a recognised teaching qualification or certification in PE and swimming.

  • At least 3 years' experience teaching PE as a concept-based discipline.

  • A passion and drive for early years, infant and junior school curriculum, pedagogy and assessment.

  • International teaching experience would be preferred.

  • A committed and creative practitioner, you will be reflective on your own teaching and student outcomes, seeking out and implementing new ideas and innovative practice to raise achievement.

  • A passion for teaching and commitment to educating the whole child.

  • Keen to collaborate and share your specialist expertise, enthusiastic participation in and delivery of professional learning is expected. Evidence of regular and recent professional learning.

  • Willing and eager to participate in the five key elements of a UWCSEA education: Academics; Activities; Outdoor Education; Personal and Social Education and Service.

  • On average the College expects a yearly contribution to Activities and/or Service, though this can vary greatly in the PE Department.

  • The College expects that teachers will participate enthusiastically in the curricular outdoor education experiences which are relevant to their students and will also occasionally volunteer for holiday outdoor education trips.
