Hospital Optometrist – Swansea

£54,609–£62,411 DOE | Full-time | 37.5 hours per week

Location: Swansea, SA7

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Saturday, across five days, 9am–5pm. Includes one Saturday in every four, with a rota day off following weekend working. On-call duties will also form part of the rota.

You will join a large, established team of hospital optometrists, supporting cataract services across a variety of clinics, including pre-operative assessments, post-operative reviews and YAG laser treatments.

There will also be opportunities to broaden your clinical knowledge in areas such as Medical Retina and Glaucoma, alongside involvement in private services. Occasional home working may also be available.

About the role

As a Hospital Optometrist, your responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out pre-operative and post-operative assessments for patients undergoing cataract surgery.
• Completing pre-operative assessments for patients referred for YAG laser capsulotomy.
• Obtaining informed consent professionally and ethically.
• Participating in the on-call and weekend rota as required.
• Ensuring clinical areas are properly prepared, and equipment is checked before and after clinics.
• Completing mandatory training, including basic life support and manual handling.
• Working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to support the smooth running of clinical services.
• Maintaining high standards of patient care, safety and clinical practice.

What we're looking for

• A qualified Optometrist with current General Optical Council (GOC) registration.
• A genuine passion for patient care and developing clinical expertise.
• An interest in ocular disease and expanding your clinical capabilities.
• A willingness to learn and undertake further training and qualifications.
• Previous hospital optometry experience is beneficial but not essential, as full training and support will be provided.
