About us

Doha College is one of the world’s leading British International Schools. Proudly not for profit, we have been named as one of the top hundred private schools globally in both the prestigious Spear’s School Index and the Carfax Index, and we are Qatar’s sole entry in both lists. Our academic outcomes at IGCSE and A Level are amongst the strongest of any British International School.

Alongside academic excellence, Doha College places a deep and sustained emphasis on pupil wellbeing, safeguarding, and inclusive practice. As a Counsellor, you will play a vital role in supporting the emotional, social, and psychological development of our pupils within a school culture that prioritises care, early intervention, and holistic support.

Our commitment to your professional development is matched by our dedication to your wellbeing. You will be part of a highly collaborative pastoral and safeguarding team, working within a reflective and supportive environment that values supervision, ongoing professional learning, and evidence-informed practice. We provide a comprehensive induction and orientation programme to support colleagues relocating internationally, ensuring a smooth, well-supported transition.

We are proud of our diverse and vibrant international community, where pupils are engaged, respectful, and a genuine pleasure to work with. Our approach encourages innovation and professional autonomy, and we actively seek colleagues who bring insight, compassion, and a commitment to making a meaningful difference to young people’s lives.

If you are committed to delivering high-quality therapeutic support and bringing warmth, integrity, and a strong ethical foundation to your practice, we very much look forward to receiving your application.

The opportunity

We are seeking to appoint an experienced, dynamic, and reflective Counsellor to join Doha College in August 2026. The successful candidate will bring a strong ethical foundation and a nuanced understanding of the diverse emotional and psychological needs of pupils within an international school context. This includes sensitivity to the lived experiences of pupils from a wide range of ethnic, cultural, and social backgrounds, as well as an awareness of the particular challenges associated with expatriate life.

A secure and up-to-date understanding of safeguarding within educational settings is essential. The postholder will be expected to work confidently within statutory and school-based safeguarding frameworks, contributing to early identification, intervention, and ongoing support for pupils.

As a Counsellor, you will play a central role in promoting a culture of wellbeing across both Primary and Secondary phases. This will include delivering high-quality therapeutic support, contributing to whole school approaches to mental health, and working collaboratively with pastoral, safeguarding, and senior leadership teams. The role requires a proactive, relational approach, supporting not only individual pupils but also the wider school community through consultation, guidance, and preventive work.

About you

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to upholding the highest standards of professional practice and to ensuring full compliance with the school’s policies and procedures. You will bring a clear understanding of ethical and confidential practice within a school-based therapeutic context, alongside the ability to operate effectively within established safeguarding frameworks.

You will play a central role in providing high-quality therapeutic support to pupils, responding to a wide range of emotional, social, and psychological needs. This will include delivering one-to-one counselling, facilitating small-group interventions, and supporting pupils at key points of transition, such as entry to the school, movement between phases, and preparation for examinations or post-16 pathways.

In addition, you will design and deliver a range of proactive and preventative initiatives, including assemblies, pupil workshops, parent information sessions, and staff professional development. These will be responsive to emerging needs within the school community and will aim to promote emotional wellbeing, resilience, and a supportive school culture.

A collaborative and consultative approach is essential. You will work closely with the Vice Principal, Deputy Heads Pastoral, Assistant Heads, Heads of Year, School Nurses, and teaching staff to provide specialist guidance on pastoral care and pupil wellbeing. This will include offering psychologically informed perspectives, supporting staff in responding to complex needs, and contributing to a joined-up, whole school approach to safeguarding and wellbeing.
