The school isn't simply looking for another Teaching Assistant.

You'll spend the year working alongside experienced teachers, supporting pupils academically and gradually developing the confidence, classroom presence and practical skills needed to decide whether teaching is the career for you.

This Isn't a Year of Standing at the Back of a Classroom

The school wants its graduates to get involved.

You might start your morning supporting a Year 8 lesson before working individually with a pupil who has fallen behind.

Later, you could run a GCSE revision group, support a pupil with additional learning needs or work with high-achieving students who need to be stretched academically.

You'll create resources, monitor progress, provide feedback to teachers and become a familiar, trusted presence around the school.

And as you develop?

Your responsibilities can develop with you.

For graduates who demonstrate the right confidence and ability, there may be opportunities to lead interventions, deliver sections of lessons and begin developing your own classroom practice under the guidance of qualified teachers.

By the end of the year, you'll have a far clearer understanding of what being a teacher involves.

Who Could Be a Great Fit?

You don't need to have already worked in a school.

You do need to be bright, confident, articulate and genuinely interested in working with young people.

English | Mathematics | Biology | Chemistry | Physics | History | Geography | Languages | Psychology | Humanities | STEM and related subjects

A strong academic background and 2:1 or First-Class degree would be highly desirable.

More importantly, you'll need the confidence to explain ideas clearly, build relationships with teenagers and respond positively when you're challenged.
