Senior Design Manager

Shape the delivery of complex infrastructure projects by leading design excellence from concept through to completion.

Our Client has a requirement for a Senior Design Manager, who will be required to work on a  contract basis in Heathrow.

Role Purpose:

• Responsible for delivering the design on allocated projects across a major infrastructure framework.
• Deliver the best design solutions for clients whilst identifying and mitigating risks.
• Lead design management activities, ensuring delivery aligns with programme, budget, safety and environmental objectives.
• Manage progressively assured designs suitable for acceptance by both contractor and client stakeholders.
• Provide technical project management throughout the design lifecycle.
• Work collaboratively with internal teams, designers, subcontractors and client representatives.

Job Role Responsibilities:

• Undertake design management in line with the Framework Design Management Plan.
• Deliver progressively assured designs on allocated projects whilst identifying and mitigating risks.
• Report on design progress and project activities.
• Support the selection and appointment of designers.
• Manage contractual correspondence relating to design consultants and designers.
• Measure design progress against project programmes.
• Engage with client technical, engineering and assurance teams as required.
• Ensure progressive assurance of design deliverables.
• Robustly manage design change processes.
• Coordinate design reviews and act as the final arbiter on suitability and acceptance.
• Maintain design management governance requirements.
• Undertake technical and SHE/DRA risk reviews.
• Ensure responsibilities under CDM and Building Regulations are fulfilled.
• Carry out additional duties in accordance with the Framework Design Management Plan.

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or Engineering/Management apprenticeship with relevant industry experience.
• Chartered membership of a professional institution (MICE, IMechE, MCIOB or similar) or working towards chartership.
• Minimum of 10 years post-graduate design, engineering or management experience within infrastructure or a related industry.
• Experience in rail infrastructure projects is highly beneficial.
• Detailed knowledge of design and construction process models.
• Practical, logical and methodical approach to delivery.
• Creative and innovative problem-solving ability.
• Extensive experience of establishing and operating EDMS systems and design workflows.
• Strong technical management experience with the ability to review design deliverables and prepare reports.
• Understanding of technical concepts across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Detailed knowledge of MEP disciplines is highly beneficial.
• Extensive experience drafting contractual correspondence and facilitating collaborative solutions.
• Experience developing and implementing procurement and contract strategies for design.
• Strong negotiation, leadership and team-working skills.
• Excellent analytical abilities.
• Demonstrable legal, contractual and construction knowledge.
• Experience implementing strategic objectives and managing change.
• Ability to influence stakeholders and drive project outcomes.
• Master's or postgraduate degree desirable.
• Additional professional qualifications such as MAPM, MCIArb, MICW or similar desirable.
• Experience in aviation infrastructure projects desirable.
• Familiarity with major airport project processes and procedures desirable.
• Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain necessary site access requirements.
