Technical Lead, Android Growth Systems and App Foundations

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  
• 8 years of experience in software development.
  
• 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
  
• 5 years of experience with Android application development.
• 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
• Experience with modern Android development: Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Material Design.

As a Technical Lead, you will drive the technical strategy to make Google Search an omnipresent, instantly callable, and proactively helpful companion across the Android ecosystem. You will lead the evolution of our OS-level entry points (e.g., the Android Quick Search Box) transitioning them from isolated utilities into a single, cohesive access system.

You will ensure our features feel like flawless, visually rich extensions of the Android launcher itself, rather than a layered third-party app. You will also pioneer proactive assistance, leveraging native surfaces like lockscreen and widgets to anticipate user needs and deliver high-value information before a query is even typed.

Partnering closely with Product, UX, and cross-functional teams, your technical leadership will weave Search directly into the fabric of Android.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects.
• Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large-scale software solutions.
• Leverage AI development tools to optimize daily workflows
• Manage a technical team of 6 engineers while spending 50% of time on IC contributions.
