The Creative Content and Commercial Intern will join Ark, an immersive film and technology company working at the cutting edge of how real human expertise is captured and delivered.
Ark works as an innovation and delivery partner to NHS and other organisations, creating immersive training and workforce development experiences using 3D360 video, VR and emerging spatial technologies.
This internship offers a student the opportunity to work in an environment where creative production, emerging technology and real-world innovation overlap.
Arkʼs work is not based around a conventional production pipeline. Projects can involve new technologies, specialist immersive formats and complex delivery requirements, meaning the intern will be encouraged to experiment, ask questions and contribute to solving genuine production challenges.
We see the Discovery Intern programme as an opportunity to identify emerging talent and give a student meaningful responsibility within live projects, while ensuring they have appropriate support and opportunities to develop new technical, creative and commercial skills.
Duties and responsibilities
The intern will primarily support Arkʼs post-production and content workflow, working with complex raw footage to create clear, engaging and coherent edits. This will include ingesting and organising footage, interpreting scripts, building timelines, synchronising audio and video, producing first edits and helping prepare content for specialist immersive delivery.
The will also provide experience beyond conventional video editing. Arkʼs projects frequently involve new technology and production challenges where there is no established workflow, giving the intern the opportunity to develop their technical problem-solving skills and gain exposure to immersive video, VR, spatial media and emerging production techniques.
Alongside production, the intern will support the commercial storytelling around Arkʼs work. This could include creating promotional edits, trailers, case studies and social content, researching potential clients and sectors, identifying organisations that could benefit from Arkʼs technology, and helping prepare sales and outreach material.
The purpose of the internship is to give a student practical experience at the intersection of creative production, emerging technology and commercial development. They will see how an innovative project moves from raw footage through post production and delivery, and then how that work is communicated, marketed and developed into future commercial opportunities.
Ark can provide access to a Mac Pro with Final Cut Pro and the core post-production software required for the . Access to the internʼs own suitable Mac or MacBook would be advantageous but is not essential.
Skills and experience
We are looking for a Level 5 or 6 undergraduate with a strong creative interest in film, video, digital media, immersive technology or content production, combined with curiosity about how creative and technical work becomes a commercially viable product or service.
The successful candidate does not need to arrive with experience of every technology Ark uses. More important is a strong foundation in editing and storytelling, technical curiosity and a willingness to learn and solve unfamiliar problems
Key skills and experience:
- Experience using non-linear video editing software. Final Cut Pro would be ideal, although experience with comparable professional editing software would also be considered.
- Strong creative and editorial judgement, with the ability to interpret a script, review raw material, identify the story and build a coherent timeline edit.
- Good technical understanding of video production, including footage management, audio and video synchronisation, formats, codecs, compression, transcoding and delivery.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage large volumes of footage, project files, versions, feedback and delivery requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including a good grasp of British English, natural speech, regional tone and context.
- Technical curiosity and a willingness to experiment with unfamiliar workflows and emerging technologies.
- Commercial awareness and an interest in understanding why a creative product is valuable, who might need it and how that value can be communicated.
- Confidence researching organisations, sectors and potential clients and contributing ideas to marketing, outreach and early business development activity.
Experience with immersive video, 360 video, VR, spatial audio, FFmpeg or related emerging-media technologies would be advantageous, but is not essential. A willingness and ability to learn these areas during the internship is equally important.
The intern should be comfortable working with serious subject matter, including healthcare, education and public services, while finding creative ways to make the resulting content engaging and accessible.
Degree subjects we would particularly welcome include: Film Production, Media Production, Digital Media, Creative Media, Television Production, Content Creation, Digital Arts, Animation, Immersive Media, VR/XR, Games or Interactive Media, Marketing, Advertising and related creative or technology disciplines.
We would also welcome applications from students on other degree programmes who can demonstrate a strong portfolio or relevant practical experience in video editing, storytelling or digital content production.
