About the School
A busy secondary school in Swindon is looking to appoint a reliable and experienced School Caretaker to join its premises team.
The school site includes general teaching classrooms, specialist teaching areas, sports facilities, staff offices and outdoor spaces that require regular maintenance and security checks. The successful candidate will help ensure the premises remain safe, functional and ready for use throughout the school day.
The school is looking for someone who understands the practical demands of maintaining an educational site and can work independently while supporting the wider premises team.
About the Role
The Caretaker will undertake a range of maintenance, security and general site duties, including:
Opening and securing the premises in accordance with school procedures.
Completing daily inspections of buildings and external areas.
Carrying out minor repairs, maintenance and basic decorating.
Checking doors, windows, lighting and other facilities.
Preparing classrooms and communal spaces for meetings and events.
Assisting with the movement of furniture and equipment.
Maintaining outdoor areas and reporting potential hazards.
Monitoring deliveries and providing access for authorised contractors.
Supporting fire safety checks and emergency procedures.
Reporting significant repairs and maintenance concerns.
Ensuring site security procedures are followed.
Responding to maintenance issues during the school day.
The Ideal Candidate
Previous experience as a caretaker or premises professional within a school is essential.
Candidates should have practical maintenance skills and understand the importance of safeguarding, site security and health and safety when working around pupils.
The ability to prioritise tasks, communicate professionally with school staff and respond promptly to urgent issues is important.
An enhanced DBS will be required.
