Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs : Pupils may require strategies for managing emotions, building resilience, and sustaining positive behaviours.
Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN) : Pupils may need one-to-one or small group interventions to develop communication and social interaction skills.
Learning Delays : Pupils may need additional support in literacy, numeracy, and other areas of the curriculum.
Sensory Processing Differences : Pupils may need personalised support or environmental adjustments to engage effectively in learning.
Support may be delivered one-to-one , in small groups , or integrated into whole-class lessons , depending on individual needs and SENCO guidance.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing tailored support to pupils with SEN to help them access lessons and activities
Supporting pupils to achieve academic, social, and personal development goals
Collaborating with class teachers to adapt lesson content, resources, and teaching strategies
Implementing strategies outlined in EHCPs, behaviour plans, and individual support plans
Supporting pupils’ emotional regulation, social skills, and behaviour management
Encouraging positive peer interactions and communication
Assisting with transitions between lessons, playground supervision, and lunchtimes
Observing, recording, and reporting pupil progress and behaviour
Providing feedback to teachers, SENCOs, and external specialists
Supporting personal care needs where appropriate, maintaining dignity and respect
Promoting independence while offering structured guidance
Contributing to a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
This role requires flexibility, patience, and a creative approach to meeting pupils’ diverse needs.
