A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 or Band 6 (dependent on experience) Mental Health Practitioners to undertake a Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

If you already have a core qualification such as Mental Health Nurse (RMN/RLD), Mental Health Practitioner, Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or creative therapies e.g. Art Therapy - with proof of relevant professional registration Or recognised degree level broad based health & social care qualification which will require completion of The British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) Knowledge Skills and Attributes (2) you will be considered for B6

If you have aDegree level qualification and/or equivalent experience in a child and family related field e.g. social work, youth and community work, nursing you will be considered for the B5 postalong with knowledge and skills framework you would be eligible to apply to B5.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicants will work within Sefton CAMHS, Venus or Parenting 2000 as part of a multi-disciplinary teams delivering, under supervision, high-quality, outcome informed, focused and evidence-based interventions for children and young people in accordance with the competency framework for their therapeutic modality.

Applicants need to be able to start the Post Graduate training programme taught academic dates in January 2027 and commit to attendance at all university based taught and self-study days required by Manchester University.

You will work in the service for the remaining days of the week using your newly developed skills to ensure you gain the necessary clinical practice hours to fulfil the academic programme. This is 200 hours of modality and case specific practice for the full time courses.

About us
Alder Hey Children's Hospital in partnership with Venus are excited to offer three CBT IAPT training places for 2027/2028. One post will be hosted by Sefton CAMHS, one will be with Venus and another will be with Parenting 2000. This will enable the successful applicants to work with children in a variety of community settings with support from their colleagues to identify young people with the level of needs suited to the requirements of the academic programme.

Job responsibilities
This is a recruit to train post for 12 months which includes 2 days study at Prestwich alongside clinical supervision on a 1:1 and group basis. There will be 3 days on placement at Sefton CAMHS were you would provide therapeutic interventions inline with the modality you are training in.

• Knowledge of behavioural based interventions
• An understanding of the specific needs of people from different ethnic backgrounds and an understanding of those with disabilities
• Knowledge of relevant, current legislation
• Knowledge of safety factors in management of self-harming behaviours and child protection issues
• Organisational skills to manage and prioritise workload balance appropriately
• Able to demonstrate a commitment to the overall vision and the development of the professional group of mental health practitioners

Qualifications
Essential

• Ability to assess plan and implement patient plans of care with regular supervision
• Ability to develop therapeutic relationships (2) Knowledge of child development including adolescence (2)
• To be able to work independently with young people presenting at risk but being aware to maintain this within the bounds of your responsibility accessing supervision if required out of the formal structure

• Experience of working in child and adolescent mental health services.
