Applications are invited to apply for this LAS ST3 post (Fixed Term from 2nd Sep 2026 until 2nd Feb 2027)in Acute/General/Geriatric Medicine.

Subspecialty experience will be offered, subject to discussion between post holder and Clinical Manager.

It is envisaged this post would be suitable an early years registrar who would like a further year to develop speciality skills before undertaking speciality training. The candidate should be capable of being on the general medical registrar rota.

The job will contain the following exposure:

• 6 sessions working as a Registrar-level doctor in the Medical Department on the medical wards.
• 1 session of SPA activity (to be agreed internally)
• Full participation in the general medicine registrar on call rota including nights and weekends
• Undergraduate UBMS Medical School Teaching

You may from time to time be asked to undertake other reasonable duties; however, any changes will be made in discussion with you in the light of the service need,

Main duties of the job
We are a dynamic and supportive department, and the posts offer broad and deep clinical exposure.

The appointee will have excellent opportunity to gain experience in acute medicine including being part of the acute on call rota, which attracts the additional on call supplement. Further, there is an opportunity to work shifts in our Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) department providing front door and admission avoidance care for our patients.

There will be many opportunities for professional development, and you will be allocated a clinical supervisor to help with a personal development portfolio. Applicants will also be supported in applying for National Training Numbers (NTN's).

There are many forms of development available in this role, including weekly grand round and regular audit and clinical governance sessions. Participation in these will be encouraged. There will be opportunities to work on audit and quality improvement projects.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will support the Acute on call rota, responsible for managing, co-ordinating and running the acute take smoothly and working alongside the Acute Medical Consultant / On call Consultant Physician of the day on MAU. This will involve taking part in evening shifts, night shifts and weekend working dependent upon experience of the candidate and the need of the service. Every doctor working within the department of medicine is expected to have an out of hours component within their contract.

There are a number of specific roles within the hospital relating to our joint endeavours with the University of Buckingham Medical School. These roles involve teaching and the wider management of the undergraduate training programme. These activities are recognised explicitly in job plans. Day-to-day teaching on the wards and in clinic is accounted for within direct clinical care (DCC) time.

• Clinical judgment: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need
• Practical skills: shows aptitude for practical skills, required in the job. Proven ability to work effectively in different clinical settings required in the job
• Evidence of experience in a range of acute medical specialties, with experience of managing patients on unselected medical take during core medical training or equivalent
