Tired of long site hours, weekend callouts and never switching off? Ready for a role where your expertise is valued — and your life outside work actually exists?
At the Royal Veterinary College, we’re looking for a skilled Health & Safety professional with experience in fire safety, construction, or the built environment to join our Corporate Health & Safety team.
If you’re coming from construction, you’ll find this a refreshing change: a better life-work balance, standardised hours (35 hours/week), generous holidays (30+ days/year), and a highly competitive University pension scheme that’s one of the best in the UK.
What you’ll do
Lead fire risk assessments and support Fire Marshals
Deliver fire safety training and promote a positive safety culture across the campuses
Advise on contractor safety, building safety and construction projects
Carry out audits, inspections and incident investigations
Support safety events, compliance reporting and guidance development
Why this is a step up from construction
No more 50-60-hour weeks — enjoy predictable, balanced working hours
Significantly more annual leave than industry norms
Outstanding pension scheme with exceptional employer contributions
A stable, respected environment where your expertise shapes long-term safety and where your personal wellbeing is supported
Opportunities for professional development and progression
What you’ll bring
NEBOSH General Certificate + Fire Safety Certificate
Experience in construction, fire safety or built-environment H&S
Strong communication and training delivery skills
Confidence conducting risk assessments and investigations
IOSH membership (TechIOSH or working towards)
If you’re ready to swap relentless site pressure for a role with impact, balance and long-term security, this is your chance.
Join the RVC — and build a safer future without sacrificing your own.
This role, although primarily based at our Hawkshead Campus, will require travel to our Camden campus.
We offer a generous reward package and benefits including:
Competitive and attractive pension package
Generous 30 days annual leave (plus bank holidays + concessionary days)
Access to free in-house CPD and funded external CPD
A range of family friendly policies, including adoption, maternity and paternity pay and leave
On site café and restaurant
Free membership to the newly built Fitness and Wellbeing Centre located on site (gym, badminton, climbing wall, Zumba, yoga and Pilates classes included)
Cycle to work scheme
Free mini-bus service to and from Potters Bar station and Hawkshead Campus
