Smile Education are recruiting for a SENCO to support a secondary school in Manchester.
The role is suitable for experienced SENCOs, Assistant SENCOs, or qualified teachers with strong SEND leadership experience who are ready to take responsibility for SEND provision, EHCPs, interventions, staff support and pupil progress.
The Role
As SENCO, your responsibilities will include coordinating SEND provision across the school, supporting pupils with additional needs, managing EHCP processes, leading intervention planning, advising teaching staff, liaising with families and external agencies, and ensuring pupils receive the support they need to access learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate SEND provision across the school.
- Support pupils with SEND, SEMH and additional learning needs.
- Oversee EHCPs, annual reviews, support plans and pupil passports.
- Identify barriers to learning and ensure appropriate interventions are in place.
- Work closely with teachers, teaching assistants, pastoral teams and senior leaders.
- Provide staff with practical strategies to support pupils with additional needs.
- Monitor pupil progress, intervention impact and SEND documentation.
- Liaise with parents, carers and external professionals.
- Support referrals, assessments and graduated response processes.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure confidentiality.
- Contribute to safeguarding, inclusion and wider school support systems.
- Ensure SEND practice is consistent with school policies and statutory requirements.
- QTS is essential for this SENCO role.
- Experience as a SENCO, Assistant SENCO, SEND Lead, Inclusion Lead or strong SEND teacher is required.
- A SENCO qualification, NASENCO or NPQ SENCO is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of SEND, EHCPs and the graduated response is required.
- Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, communication needs or learning difficulties is desirable.
- You must be confident advising staff and working with families and external agencies.
- Strong organisation, communication and record-keeping skills are essential.
- You must be able to manage competing priorities and sensitive information professionally.
- You must hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one.
- You must have the right to work in the UK.
- £180–£250 per day, dependent on experience and role responsibilities.
- Full-time, long-term SENCO role.
- Potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
- Suitable for experienced SENCOs and Assistant SENCOs looking for progression.
