Talking Therapies Senior PWP (Perinatal)

Job summary
A Senior Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner is required to contribute to the development of perinatal mental health care within Sheffield Talking Therapies. To develop proposals for the future offer that responds to the NHS Long Term Plan which will result in increased identification of perinatal mental health and community needs.

A Senior PWP will:

• Work within the Talking Therapies service to offer high quality evidence-based interventions within the stepped care model for people with common mental health problems such as Anxiety and Depression.
• Support GPs and other health care professionals in primary and secondary care teams to help manage patients with Depression or Anxiety.
• Offer supervision and professional and practical support to PWP colleagues of varying experience (including PWP Trainees) within the Talking Therapies service.
• Offer expert support; clinical guidance and leadership as needed to other PWP colleagues requiring support or when dealing with suitability or difficult clinical situations.
• Work alongside the Team Leaders/Central & Equalities Manager to help us achieve our aims of supporting access and outcomes for people from underrepresented communities.

Main duties of the job

• Deliver effective mental health care to birthing partners, non-birthing partners and their infants in line with Step 2 care delivery within the Talking Therapies service during the perinatal period.
• Engage in joint working and develop the interface between other services and Sheffield Talking Therapies to ensure perinatal journeys are supported.
• Engage with service users and communities in order to develop proposals for service development aiming to enhance perinatal mental health care.
• Contribute to project management, evaluation, and co-ordination of service development project(s), as required, in order to support teams to provide high quality perinatal mental health care in line with guidelines and community needs.
• Create, contribute to and deliver teaching and training on issues related to perinatal mental health within Sheffield Talking Therapies
• Work with colleagues to embed the Talking Therapies Perinatal Competency Framework
• Participate in the induction and training of new staff, as required.
• Support staff to understand perinatal mental health and the pathways to support for families across the region.
• Be responsible for data collection, entry, and analysis as part of audit and evaluation of such project(s) while collecting data in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
• Analyse available data sources to review the access to perinatal mental health services from the communities currently identified as under-represented.

Job responsibilities
General requirements
To meet all of the National Talking Therapies standards.

To ensure productivity expectations are met in line with the National Talking Therapies manual, currently to deliver 20 clinical contact hours (pro-rata) per week. This may involve booking over 20 patients per week in order to achieve the 20 delivered hours expectation. These standards are reviewed nationally, and it is expected that staff will continue to meet any updated standards.

To meet patient needs by working across Sheffield according to demand. This is a full time role of 37.5 hours per week. To support in role, it is essential to work Thursday afternoons as these are service wide non-clinical time which involves, meetings, forums and CPD opportunities. To offer at least one early appointment and one late appointment per week, or one evening clinic and/ or Saturday working if required. Deliver face-to-face and virtual treatment sessions with patients based on patient demand and service need. You may be expected to physically be in work for your full working week if there is a service need, therefore you need arrangements in place to be able to work your full working hours in work premises. Working all of your working hours virtually is not an option. Assist people accessing the service for help with common mental health problems to identify their problems; assess their needs; prioritise goals and agree with the individual a way forward or action plan. Assess and identify patients presenting with risk (to self or other people) and be able to carry out an appropriate risk assessment; follow the Talking Therapies risk protocol; and procedures for communicating and acting on risk (including child and adult safeguarding policies); and provide support to PWP colleagues when required to do the same. Work with GP practice teams and other physical health teams to ensure an integrated approach to mental health care. Step patients to more appropriate levels of care in Talking Therapies efficiently and appropriately as part of the stepped care model. Ensure patients have access to all facilities available at their surgery. Provide evidence-based interventions for patients both in GP clinics; telephone clinics and group-based interventions, such as guided self-help in line with NICE and Talking Therapies service guidance. Liaise closely with other members of the teams that as a service we work collaboratively with; and other agencies involved with the individual or family. Report to GPs on patients responses to medication. Collect and organise information in primary care for patients and families which is appropriate to the individuals as well as appropriate for the service e.g., using materials and information that is recognised and endorsed by the service. Provide information on and contacts with groups and organisations in ways that are accessible. Show respect for peoples social and cultural differences and preferences, working with people from a wide and diverse background. Work with interpreters when necessary. Record data on the appropriate data base and record systems as required by the Talking Therapies service in a timely manner; setting a standard and example for PWP colleagues to follow. Maybe required to work one evening per week. Attend training as required and negotiated within the PDR process; be involved in the organisation or delivery of training to colleagues; taking a lead on the dissemination of training and learning from CPD events to teams and colleagues. Identify opportunities to help improve the quality of the Talking Therapies service; taking the responsibility to raise these as appropriate and bring to the attention of senior Talking Therapies colleagues. Contribute to profession specific and service wide meetings, forums and masterclasses to support you in your role and CPD

To complete all mandated session by session outcome measures

Offer clinical case management supervision to other PWPs; and contribute to the IPDR process for these staff. Work with other primary and mental health care workers to develop group work identify local needs, publicise the groups, take referrals, manage the groups and report on outcomes to referrers. Promote and contribute to the development of training for the primary care teams and support the development of their mental health skills generally.

Service Development & Leadership
Develop and maintain appropriate supportive links between practices and statutory and non-statutory organisations. Contribute to the further development of Sheffield Talking Therapies services. Organise and facilitate group supervision for the PWP workforce. To ensure record keeping in line with Sheffield Talking Therapies Standard Operating Procedures. This includes contemporaneous notes completed within 24 hours on the agreed patient record system, checking SHSC patient administration system prior to taking on new patients to check any risk or suitability issues and to send a discharge summary to GP practices once completed treatment. Ensure all mandatory training is up to date in line with service protocol

• Knowledge and skill of other local mental health services and managing interface issues with these service (while maintaining adherence to the Talking Therapies model)

Desirable

• Ability to speak other languages commonly used in Sheffield; and/or experience of working closely and collaboratively with Ethnically and Culturally Diverse Communities.

Training & Qualifications
Essential

• NHS Talking Therapies qualification as a psychological wellbeing practitioner (unless demonstrably exempt through UCL assessment of competence scheme) AND * Registration as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner with either BABCP or BPS
• Talking Therapies Supervision Qualification or currently on the training course

Desirable

• Further qualification or training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy based interventions, approaches or techniques.
• Leadership training course

Experience
Essential

• Experience offering psychological interventions in primary care particularly CBT based interventions
• Experience offering case management supervision to both qualified and trainee staff.
• Experience working in and facilitating stepped care approaches
• Experience of delivering group based Talking Therapies interventions
• Experience of working with diverse communities
• Demonstrate clinical leadership appropriate to banding where required.

Desirable

• Delivering group based clinical supervision
• Experience of project or service improvement work

• Ability to work across Sheffield depending on need and able to work 37.5 hours in order to meet the demands of the role, maintain CPD and receive support/maintain wellbeing by attending counselling forums, team meetings, group supervision and individual supervision
