Multi-Skilled Mechanical & Electrical Maintenance Engineer
Location: Birmingham
Salary: £44,000 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday | 7:00am - 4:00pm (1-hour lunch)
⏰ Overtime: Available when required
Position: Permanent

The Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Multi-Skilled Mechanical & Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established manufacturing business. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of production machinery, plant equipment, and building services.

This hands-on position would suit a proactive engineer with strong fault-finding abilities across both electrical and mechanical disciplines who enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs

* Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) across production machinery and site equipment.
* Respond promptly to reactive maintenance and equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime.
* Diagnose and repair faults on:

* Pumps
* Gearboxes
* Pneumatic systems
* Hydraulic systems
* Electric motors
* Drives and inverters
* Control panels

* Safely isolate electrical and mechanical systems in line with Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
* Manufacture or modify mechanical components including brackets, guards and gaskets.
* Replace faulty electrical and mechanical components efficiently and safely.

Continuous Improvement

* Identify root causes of recurring faults and implement long-term corrective actions.
* Assist with the installation, testing and commissioning of new machinery and equipment.
* Ensure all machinery complies with current Health & Safety and Environmental standards.
* Maintain accurate maintenance records using the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
* Support continuous improvement initiatives to maximise equipment reliability and production efficiency.

Teamwork & Communication

* Work closely with Production and Operations teams to schedule maintenance effectively.
* Supervise and coordinate external contractors carrying out specialist maintenance work.
* Escalate major engineering issues where necessary.
* Support and train production operators on basic machine operation and routine maintenance.

Candidate Requirements
Essential Qualifications

* Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship or time-served qualification.
* NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or BTEC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
* Previous experience working as a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer within a manufacturing, production or industrial environment.

Desirable Qualifications

* HNC/HND in Engineering or a related discipline.
* 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (preferred for electrically biased engineers).

Skills & Experience

* Strong electrical fault-finding skills including PLCs, three-phase systems, motors, relays and drives.
* Excellent mechanical maintenance experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps and gearboxes.
* Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
* Competent using electrical testing equipment and mechanical hand tools.
* Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
* Flexible approach to overtime when required.
