About MAG

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

About the SLE Talent Pool

Initially established in 2020, MAG has been running a logistics roster to provide support to MAG Programmes in multiple different ways, from Gap Filling senior logistics positions to supporting scale up, opening or closing of projects. Multiple pre-selected experts are consulted each time MAG requires specific and time-bound support in one of its 40+ Programmes. The Roster enables fast-tracking of senior logistics capacity to address sudden or acute needs across MAG Programmes, as roster members are directly deployable after successfully completing the selection process to enter the Roster.

In 2026, the Roster is evolving and is splitting up on 3 different thematic competency areas: supply chain management, fleet management, and construction procurement. MAG is launching a selection process to pre-quality suitable profiles for integrating MAG Senior Logistics Advisor Talent Pool, along the 3 competency areas highlighted above. Current members need not reapply.

Practical Notes

Being a member of MAG’s SLE Roster does not constitute an engagement of employment: each member of the roster is eligible to be employed based on a specific TOR for the duration of the agreed time-bound support. When a need arises, all members of the roster with profile matching the requirements are consulted and an initial TOR is proposed: all available and interested Roster Members are put in contact with the stakeholders of the Programme requiring the support, which will engage the most suitable profile.

Each member of the roster is contracted via a standard MAG International Contract, and benefits of same T&Cs of any international employee in the same duty station, as applicable as per MAG HQ Policies. Successful applicants to this selection process are expected to work with MAG’s Talent Team to complete their partial onboarding (including background checks, medical checks, references, etc), making them suitable for fast deployment.

Selection Process

Depending on the number of suitable applicants, the selection process may consist of a written test, and a 2-rounds interview process. Interviews will be conducted remotely via Microsoft Teams.

Requirements

Thematic Area 1: Supply Chain Management

Introduction

The volatility of the humanitarian sector in the past couple of years has brought in new challenges, and the capacity to deploy logistics support quickly to respond to field needs is a critical factor to ensure business continuity.

MAG runs complex and large scale mine clearance operations in some of the most difficult operating environments in the world. Logistics function, a backbone for supporting operations activities, is going through a significant transformation focusing on adoption of global standard processes and systems across MAG Programmes. The already important workload for logistics personnel is, therefore, going to increase and external short-term support will be required by MAG Programmes for transitioning some of their logistics management systems. All of the above is taking place on an increasing volatile operating environment, with many Programmes facing numerous contingent challenges at once.

Scope of deployments

Roster Members will be engaged to provide support for scale up/down of MAG Programmes provide gap filling of vacant logistics roles or deliver bespoken supply chain project, quickly meeting MAG Programmes logistics expertise needs. Deployments vary in length and scope, but generally last between few weeks to few months.

Requirements

Applicants to MAG Roster needs to demonstrate extensive field experience operating in complex environments and managing multi-cultural teams. The deployments require often living and working in complex conditions or in unsecure environments. MAG roster members are expected to be able to work with a relative autonomy, often taking the leading role for logistics function in the supported Programmes. Social and soft skills are as important as the technical competence: most of the deployment will involve arriving on challenging dynamics and needing to support colleagues under pressure.

For Supply Chain thematic area, applicants are required to demonstrate extensive supply chain and logistics management experience, with proven hands-on work across procurement, warehousing, facilities, asset and fleet management areas. We are looking for profiles that experienced a multitude of different context and operating environments in their career so far and can deploy across different MAG regions. While humanitarian or military logistics background are not strictly required, they are taken in consideration by the selection panel.

Full understanding of a humanitarian project lifecycle, donor requirements and compliance framework for humanitarian sector are paramount competencies for being suitable for the roster.

Advanced command of written and spoken English language is critical, additional language competencies in French, Spanish and Arabic are particularly appreciated.

Thematic Area 2: Fleet & Mechanical Workshop Management

Introduction

Within its work in Humanitarian Mine Action, MAG operates a large and complex fleet of vehicles across a multitude of countries covering most time zones. Although mostly concentrated on a third of the 40+ MAG Programmes, the fleet includes 900+ light vehicles of different kinds, generators, and trucks of various tonnage. MAG also run its own mechanical workshop in-house in several locations, having therefore its own internal supply chain for spare parts, consumables, lubricants, etc.

MAG is about to embark on a Fleet Transformation journey, led by the global logistics team and coordinated by MAG Global Fleet Manager; this journey entails the adoption of a new fleet management manual and toolkit across all MAG locations, ahead of embarking on the adoption of a Fleet Management System.

Scope of deployments

Within MAG Fleet Transformation, MAG Programmes will engage in evolving their current ways of working, local practices and systems, to align to a global and standardized set up standard ways of working. Especially for large scale operations, the transition to new ways of working and management system will require in-country support. Additionally, a wider capacity strengthening initiative will require punctual support for preparation and delivery of training to different stakeholders. The deployments may include additional focus areas, such for example assessing the fleet management practices for MAG Programme, or supporting the opening or scale up of operations.

Requirements

The types of deployments expected for fleet management experts are hands-on and field focused. Applicants to MAG Roster with focus on Fleet Management technical area are expected to bring extensive experience in managing large and complex fleets of vehicles across multiple countries of operations. Experience in managing or overseeing mechanical workshop operations is paramount, and applicants are expected to have a good command of general mechanics. Demonstrated experience working in demand planning and strengthening management system are critical for this selection process, as much as proven experience in developing and delivering trainings and capacity strengthening initiatives.

Previous experience in adopting or running any fleet management system, IVMS and digital tools constitute a particular area of interest for this selection process.

Applicants must demonstrate a strong command in both written and spoken English; Arabic language competency is particularly relevant for this selection process.

Thematic Area 3: Procurement of Construction Sub-contracting

Introduction

Within its work on humanitarian disarmament and Armed Violence Reduction (AVR), MAG is increasingly engaging in complex construction projects in remote locations, across multiple country programmes. Weapons and Ammunition Management projects require a lean field structure, and procurement risks are concentrated across some time-bound and high-complexity activities, mostly linked to sub-contracting of construction or rehabilitation works.

Scope of deployments

Members of MAG Roster will be deployed to support the selection of construction and rehabilitation subcontractors, by working with MAG’s in-country team and leading the tender, suppliers’ quality assurance, and contracting processes. Additionally, members of the roster are expected to support the Programme in developing all contracts and framework agreements relevant for the functioning of MAG Office and the implementation of the contracted projects, across a variety of commodities (rental vehicles, technical equipment, etc). Duration of deployments can vary from several weeks to few months, depending on the type of support required, and the specific TOR agreed among parties.

Requirements

Procurement of Construction Sub-contracting technical area of MAG Roster is targeting senior Procurement professionals, with experience across a variety of countries at different stage of development. Documented previous experience in leading tendering and contracting processes for Civil or Military Construction Projects, up to few millions USD, is essential criteria for selection. Applicants must show familiarity with hands-on implementation of risk management and risk mitigation strategies in complex markets, to contract high risk commodities, or high value sourcing. Previous experience across multiple organizations doing different types of construction activities is considered a plus by the selecting panel. Experience in developing and negotiating complex procurement contracts, and in providing capacity strengthening support are particularly valuable for applicants.

Applicants must be fluent in verbal and written English, able to produce quality documentation including negotiating complex contractual clauses. Ability to work in French, Spanish or Portuguese are a strong added value.
