The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant , you will play an important role in supporting pupils to access learning, develop independence and achieve their individual potential. Working closely with teachers, the SENCO and the wider school team, you will provide personalised support both inside and outside the classroom. You will help create a safe, positive and inclusive environment where every pupil is encouraged to learn, develop and succeed. You may support pupils with a range of additional needs, including: * Autism
* ADHD
* PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance)
* SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health)
* Learning Difficulties
* Physical Disabilities
* Personal Care Needs
* Looked After Children Key Responsibilities
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include: * Providing one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with a range of SEND needs.
* Supporting pupils to access and participate fully in lessons and classroom activities.
* Helping teachers to deliver individualised learning programmes and support pupils in achieving their EHCP outcomes.
* Adapting activities and providing appropriate support to meet individual learning needs.
* Encouraging pupils to develop their confidence, independence, communication and social skills .
* Providing emotional and pastoral support, helping pupils manage anxiety, emotions and difficult situations.
* Implementing appropriate behaviour management strategies and promoting positive behaviour.
* Supporting pupils who may display challenging or distressed behaviour, following school policies and individual behaviour plans.
* Supporting communication and interaction skills through structured activities and everyday classroom experiences.
* Assisting pupils with personal care , including toileting, changing and personal hygiene, where required.
* Supporting pupils with mobility and physical needs in accordance with individual care plans and school procedures.
* Providing support during breaks, lunchtimes, transitions and school activities , ensuring pupils remain safe and engaged.
* Helping pupils develop important life skills, independence and self-care skills .
* Working closely with class teachers to prepare, deliver and evaluate learning activities.
* Monitoring pupil progress and providing regular feedback to teachers and other relevant staff.
* Maintaining accurate records relating to pupil progress, behaviour and incidents where required.
* Building positive, trusting and professional relationships with pupils while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
* Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, parents/carers, therapists and other professionals .
* Following individual EHCPs, risk assessments, care plans, behaviour plans and safeguarding procedures .
* Promoting equality, inclusion and respect throughout the school.
* Encouraging pupils to participate in the wider school community and extracurricular activities.
* Maintaining a patient, nurturing and consistent approach , particularly when pupils require additional reassurance or support.
* Celebrating pupils' achievements and helping them overcome barriers to learning.
* Supporting every pupil to become as confident and independent as possible . About You
The successful candidate will ideally have: * Experience working in an education, care or support role .
* Knowledge and understanding of SEND and additional needs.
* Experience supporting children or young people with complex needs is desirable.
* An understanding of the National Curriculum .
* Strong behaviour and classroom management skills.
* A patient, compassionate and nurturing approach.
* The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* A commitment to providing an inclusive and supportive education .
* A proactive approach to supporting pupils' academic, social, emotional and personal development.
* The ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.
